This lesson looked like so much fun i just had to give it a go 😁.
I couldn’t come up with a good name for this one so I just called up “Country Rodeo” because it is fast and that’s the image it conjured up in my mind. Unusually I recorded this in one take and I know i am putting this up with a few “imperfections”. Sometimes I feel the best we do is the unpolished stuff that comes from what we feel.
For my own improvs I made a lot of use of harmonized 3rds and 6ths. Sometimes they can sound really cool ☺️

Cool lesson here Geoff and your fingers are flying! Top impro too, you continue to impress for sure. Now your sound here is quite different. Is it your Jazzmaster? Use of reverb or delay? Probably a combination. Also are you mic-ing your amp straight into the interface? The overall sound is very full, awesome tone and to me very clear. All the best! 😎🎸😎

Hey thanks Garry.
With the sound i didn’t do anything special other than setting the tone as bright as possible for that twangy country sound. A bit of hall reverb too, which i always use. For this lesson , I think a strat or a tele would actually be a better choice 🤔.
I stopped micing my amp years ago. I divert the sound directly to my focusrite and record my part as a separate track. The only challenge is lining up the bacing track but I have crude tricks for that 😊

I really love this country music because it sounds great and is also quite challenging to play. You capture that country vibe perfectly. Great performance and sound.

Thanks Dieter. I am not really much of a country listener but the guitar playing is another matter. Love playing Country style guitar 🎸 👌

Great rendition of the Brian’s part of this cool fast country part, your fingers were flying, man!
And brilliant improvisation/composition of your own in the second part, your harmonization are really cool and very enjoyable to listen to! Your skills as a composer are dramatically improving, Geoff! Really a lovely and inspiring performance.

Thanks so much Guido. Two things I have really taken away from Brian’s lessons over the years. a) use of the CAGED system b) use of harmonized 3rds and 6ths. I have found there is so much i can do with that.

Wow, Geoff. My first thought on hearing the lesson was, “that’s too fast, a lot of members will be intimidated”. You proved me wrong, great job on the fast part and your sixths worked really well.

Thanks John. One thing I did not admit to is slowing down the speed somewhat. Brian’s speed was just ridiculous and I sounded pretty sloppy trying to match it.

Geoff is the first one to jump into this lesson at full speed and hopefully inspire more to do the same. Outstanding demonstration of skill and it sounds great. I’ll probably have to play that at a much slower speed for a long time before getting it up to that original speed. Haven’t had time to even begin working on that one, but you did a great job with it. I watched it multiple times and it really sounding good.
And for those that are intimidated by the speed of this lesson, don’t be. Just slow the track down to a speed you can handle and have fun with it. The bluegrass style of playing at fast tempos is another genera that would intimidate many from even trying, but again, you have to always start at the slower tempos and work your way up.
Go slow and practice correct technique, and your abilities will dramatically improve.

Thanks Michael. See my comment to Chargos response above. I slowed the track down a fair bit. I agree that this lesson sounds just fine at a slower tempo.
My main focus was putting my own ideas and style to this one. I love using harmonized 3rds and 6ths because they can be applied to so many things.

You should try it Helen. The trouble with trying to make things perfect by repeatedly recording can be detrimental. At least for me.
Nowadays , I try to play with the heart and leave in the imperfections. Sometimes I feel music can be too manicured for want of a better word. After all, no live performance would allow for retries 😆

That is a great title for this and you really kept up the tempo for sure. I really enjoyed your improv. Kudos to you my friend.
