        Hello,
I’ve been having a little dabble with slide. Any suggestions for good songs to learn would be greatly appreciated.
I’ve been playing ‘feelin bad blues’ so far..
        Thanks in advance.
        Dave.

I can’t play slide (sounds like a sick cat) but I’ve always liked My Sweet Lord and wish I could play it.

I’m a very rank beginner on slide, so whatever I can do to learn more is on my radar. Here are some of my favs:

Vigilante Man by Ry Cooder. Pony Boy by Allman Bros. And, tuned to Open E, you can play any 12-bar blues.

BTW I just watched a Youtube video by Joe Bonamassa on slide guitar. He said he doesn’t like slide guitar and seldom plays it, but here’s what he knows about it. What he did that helped me was to demonstrate how he keeps all but the desired string muted. By watching close-ups of his left hand, I was able to see just how it works. Woohow, a breakthrough!

Thanks very much Jean-Michel, Joe and Steve. I’ll check out all of those. Having not listened to much blues (only on active melody) the only one I know is My sweet lord..

Sweet Mama would be a good song by the Allman Brothers; little slower than many of the songs and Dickey wasn’t trying to be flashy on this one
It’s from the Win Lose or Draw album (1975)

If you’ve never heard of Dylan Adams, it would pay you to look at his You Tube Channel as he has a lot of helpful videos. He is an up & coming player from Atlanta; interestingly he’s come to the realization that he wants to play in standard tuning for everything
Below is a video that I recently came across that I think would be helpful for you

I’ve been watching lots of Dylan Adam’s stuff. Even though most of his stuff is standard tuning on electric , on his acoustic tutorial he suggested ‘you gotta move’ which is an excellent tune to learn.
                      Thanks again.

Excellent tip on Dylan Adams’ channel. I can see there’s a lot of useful information on there. Thank you GnLguy.
I’ll have another look at Brian’s lesson too Martin. Thanks.

If you tune to Open G try Eric Clapton’s version of Walking Shoes from the unplugged album. It’s not difficult notewise so it’s an excellent for concentrating on the those slide playing details and nuances. Sounds great too IMO

Yes it does sound great. Thanks for the suggestion Andy.
