Grew up with Randy’s music. These Eyes, No Time, Share The Land, American Woman, Undone, Blue Collar, etc. Randy’s playing was soooo tasteful and melodic, and always a great sound and very memorable, and his parts were very singable. Also loved his jazz compings on Undone and Blue Collar. Most Rock players couldn’t go there.

His guitar sound on No Time is still one of the best guitar tones I’ve ever heard. Also loved Burton Cummings voice and flute playing.

When you mention Randy Bachman the word that comes to my mind is “classy”.

(I’ve also read that he has the biggest Gretsch Guitar collection in the world.”

            Hey Ralph

Do you remember Vets Memorial Hall in Columbus?
I saw the Guess Who there shortly after I graduated in 1973 – unfortunately Randy had already left the Guess Who by that time but Burton Cummings was great along with the rest of the band.
I even remember the local band that opened for them – Mom’s Apple Pie. Ever heard of them? From what I’ve read, they enjoyed some regional success but never had their moment

Randy also mentioned Lenny Breau – Chet Atkins called Lenny the most recorded guitarist in history because people followed him around with small personal recorders.
Lenny was an incredible talent/player but his drinking took him down in life. At the time of his death, he was living in an unheated apartment playing at a pizza restaurant for $25 night plus tips
Such a shame – anyone that ever heard Lenny play knew that he was capable of so much better

Hey Keith, I’ve been to Vets Memorial a few times. Great venue, Saw The Allman Brothers there. Ended up in the front row right in front of Dickie and Warren. Amazing show, Of course the whole band was great, but Warren was on that night. Warren had one of the best sounds I’ve ever heard. He was playing a PRS through a Soldano Head and Marshall bottom. Sweet.

The whole band were drinking Heinekins all night, and the more they drank the better they played. Very memorable night.

I do remember Mom’s Apple Pie, but I never saw them.

I did hear Randy mention Lenny. I was aware of him through Chet Atkins who talked about him a lot. That’s where Chet got his harp harmonic technique from. Love that sound. I’m posting you a video of Lenny demonstrating his technique. I’ve tried it before, but it takes too much thinking.

              Stay Well Keith,

              Ralph

I saw The Brothers in Columbus in late 1991, they were supporting their Shades of Two Worlds release. Little Feat was the opening act…. Talk about a great show!!! Paul Barrere and their other guitarist came out and jammed with them, Dickey and Warren with those 2 players… Definitely great jam session
The show wasn’t at Vets Memorial but I can’t remember which venue they played in Columbus.

Love that Feat’s link Keith. Haven’t listened to them for years.

A geetar playing friend of mine went to see Little Feet at Kenyon College in Gambier Ohio and got to hang out with Lowell George for a while. Lowell showed him the Craftsman’s Socket that he used to play slide. He said he liked the socket because it had a little weight to it. How cool is that? Wish I had been there.
