I recently mentioned how Ampeg amps were actually more popular than Fender amps at one point
That was true on the East Coast largely because Ampeg amps were designed by a jazz guitarist who hated for an amp to have any distortion.
His approach was focused on the jazz community in New York and surrounding areas whereas Leo was designing amps with as little distortion as possible largely for the Western Swing & popular guitarists of the West Coast & Texas.
And Ampeg was the first guitar amp to have reverb integrated into the amp… huge development for the time
The 2 videos provide a wealth of info on this brand with the 2nd video going with the development of model by model and the why of it.
If you can find an Ampeg amp at a reasonable price, I would suggest that you at least try it.
Thanks For the info Keith. It sounds great! Let us know if the Reverborocket joins the fold.☺
