I have been working on this piece, Brian’s EP131, for a while now. I really liked the sound of it and it is a great example of lead fills for this challenge. The D5 with the hammered on bass note just sounded soooo good to me. The fill licks came together very well. So I thought it was time to up my game with the other things in my little studio. First was to use a drum track. So much more satisfying than a metronome. It really helped with my timing. I finally dusted off the Fender bass and created a simple bass arrangement. This is my first attempt at adding the bass along with a guitar. Last, I spent a lot of time mixing and mastering using the tools in my Studio One DAW. Listened to a whole bunch of Presonus Studio One tutorials, experimented a lot and here is the result.
I am very happy with this, I think it is my most well rounded attempt so far. Can’t wait to hear what everyone else has come up with.

Yes Charlie! You’re definitely putting all the pieces together here and it sounds great. You’ve created a strong groove that get the foot tapping and the head bobbing. Fun!

Andre, mixing to get it right for all devices is a challemge. On studio monitors or really nice headphones the basis Is just right. On my laptop speakers or a cheap phone the bass was not distinct. On a good phone the bass was fair. also sounds good on my tv sound bar. Mastering is still a work in progress. Just another fun part of making music. Thanks for the input. What did you use to listen to it?

Fine production, Charlie. You put this together very well. It sounds good to me. I always shy away from the work of tackling this, but you‘ve made it.

Charlie, that was cool. So if you didn’t know the timing well before, now it works perfectly. Nice fill licks and a cool sound. Well done.
Play guitar just like you live; don't get bogged down in theory, it's just a tool without feeling.

A multi-skilled effort Charlie. This really had a Groove with a capital ‘G’. Awesome guitar playing, bass too, fantastic all round (loved the echo effect at the end also). All the best! 🥸🎸🥸

That was such a professional job, Charlie. Great groove and rhythm. You’re right about the mix – I couldn’t hear the bass until I used the external speakers.

Great choice Charlie!! I love that lesson – one of the drop D tunes for me ever! You played it so smoothly and love the fills between chords. Very well done! B

Hey Charlie, you really nailed this old Active Melody classic. One of the best versions I’ve heard yet. You were in the pocket all the way, and the sounds you were getting were fantastic. Out of sight! Thanks for posting.

Fantastic and groovy submission, Charlie. The effort was not wasted, great performance. I also like the ending when the drum stops, fitted perfectly to this song. 👍🏽
