Hi all,
Does Anybody use alternative tuning in their playing? I learned a version of “Bron-Yr-Aur Stomp” using open-F tuning (CFCFAF from low string 6 to top string 1: careful tuning top string 1 up from E to F: you don’t want to snap it!) Jimmy Page used alternative tuning a lot!
I loved playing this: a nice mix of strumming and ‘country noodling’! Also, with open F-tuning, you play chords just by barring across strings, and you can take your fretting hand off totally, and then you are strumming an F-chord while scratching your head!
Hope you enjoy this (this song reminds me of walks in the countryside in a British Summer! Perfect antidote for a dark Winter night here in the UK):
Thanks for listening!

Very nice. My one suggestion would be to try to pay some more attention to phrasing. Let the listener know where the beginnings and endings of phrases are, so we can get an anchor into the structure. Some of it sounded like Dueling Banjos.
Alternate tunings are perfect for fingerpicking, or for slide playing. I haven’t played in this tuning, and I doubt I would. I don’t have enough guitars. I tend to use alternate tunings that leave the D and G strings where they are. If I mess with the G string, it tends to break, since it carries the most tension. So I would likely try this, if at all as a different open G – DGDGBG, and yeah, that would likely snap the top string.
I’ve fooled around with Dropped D – DADGBE, Dropped C – CADGBE, Open G – DGDGBD (a Rolling Stones favorite), Open D – DADF#AD, Open Dminor – DADFAD (used by Skip James), DADGAD (listen to Pierre Bensusan), CADGAD, and a couple of other modal tunings. They are great fun, and you can come up with all sorts of interesting stuff with them.

Hi Rich!
Thanks for sharing! I haven’t messed with any open tunings but they look like fun.
