String Bending Exercise – BLG002

August 25, 2015 by Brian 20 Comments

In this lesson, you’ll learn how to play a short and simple lead, while utilizing full and half bends. I’ll also explain how to apply vibrato to a bend, and show you the technique that I use.

This is a great practice exercise for learning the difference between full bends and half bends, and is also great to practice your vibrato skills while bending.

Start by watching this quick explanation video.

Make sure you download the MP3 jam tracks and the tablature to practice with.

This is fantastic. I was able to learn this quickly. The lick is musical but simple enough to allow me to focus on getting accurate bends and vibrato. I also started improvising over the jam track using your lick as a basis.

I can tell this lesson will definitely open up my playing. Especially my bland scale practice. Thanks Brian

Really like this bite-sized mini lesson. The full lessons are great, but sometimes frustrating when you just don’t feel like you’re getting it. With this brief snippet I feel like I’ve learned something even if I fail on the longer pieces.

This is another example why I think you’re the best online teacher on the Internet.

    Thanks much!

This is a terrific exercise, especially since it sounds like real music.

What I find really useful is to do it with a clean sound and wearing headphones, so I have to really try to get the max sustain out of the guitar with no gain assistance and I can also clearly hear any other strings ringing.

im good with the string bending, I get nice notes/tones but as im bending, I hear the strings rubbing across my skin and when I release, I am finding the strings I originally pushed up into (D) and (G) ring out……how do I mute them please?

Are there any exercises that teach bending two strings at once or starting with one string bend then gabbing the second string?
