I’ve gotten a lot of mileage out of Active Melody lessons such as EP 156 Play Lead Using Different Chord Shapes, EP 199 Chord Shapes, Triads and Embellishments, EP 320 Rhythm & Lead Fills Using Chord Shapes, EP 377 Visualize Chord Shapes To Create Melodic Leads, etc.

Have any of you other members found that using these chord shape lessons (in addition to knowing the major and minor pentatonic scales), produce what Brian calls “light bulb moments” that greatly enhance your lead playing? Inquiring minds want to know…

yes, I have been playing for 20 years and a member since 2011. Brian has been consistent over the years on getting students to simplify chord shapes and how they unlock the understanding of how music works. Keeping it simple by eliminating difficulty of a full bar chords and looking at just the triads is a good example. EP362 is a good one for triads in addition to the CAGED specific lessons. It does take time to absorb all this stuff. My son teaches guitar and is in a band. He makes it even more simple than Brian when he teaches. keeping it simple is what unlocks the ability to improvise and doodle that is tasteful.
