Hi there,
I’d like to ask for your help to understand what Brian is talking about in the EP363, I’m sure that I don’t understand because of the english language (I’m Italian).First question 🙂
At 12:00 minutes Brian talks about to flat seventh and he goes down two frets, in my mind I thought that to flat it was only one fret.Second question 😮
At 12:16 minutes he says that he has to change another position, the fifth position.
Why?I know these are very rookie questions but that’s what I am.
Thank you for reading and any kind of help.
Just for your convenience here is the link to the lesson

Hi Fabrizio,
I just listened to the part of the lesson and “fried” my brain a little bit (not an easy lesson!) but I think I may be able to help you with these questions.
1. You are correct. To flat a note is to go down one fret. Brian does that very briefly at 11:57. Notice that he also changes the finger placement then. At 12:00 he moves back and forth between the two scale positions with the note already flattened (see the chart provided with the lesson, it helps!)
2. When you play 3rds it’s like you’re playing 2 same scales at the same time, one on each string. If you flatten the 7th note of the scale on one string (to give that Mixolydian mode), you also have to flatten that note on the other string – which will be in a different position because the two scales are offset by 3 intervals.
1–2–3–4–5—6–b7
3–4–5–6–b7-1–2Hope that helps.

Hey Jo!
Thank you for your quick reply, I just watched at 11:57 and you’re right (obviously) I didn’t notice he went down with one finger (note) only.As for the the second answer I will try to watched the lesson again today after work, I’m sure that with your explanation I’ll got it.
Meanwhile thanks again and have a good day.
