Anyone have comments on the Republic resonators?
Is it second best to National?

          Andre,
I think that is subjective. Once you pick up a National it’s hard to look back. They are costly. I never held a Republic in my hands so I really can’t comment. I think Gretsch makes a nice resonator. And, they are very affordable. Gold Tone Paul Beard Resonators are real nice too. Anyways, I suggest you find one that you love.

I have a Republic resonator its a Highway 61 which I got off ebay a good few years back, price was decent and i’m not really using one to the extent that I’d flash the cash on a National

            Pro’s
            Price
            Well made
            Looks Good
3/4 size (I use it when I go on holiday in he camper the smaller size is a real boon and noodling endlessly with a slide is relaxing) The weight is different from a full size and the Republic balances really well on the knee and isn’t too cumbersome as well as being lighter.
            Con’s
It doesn’t have an electric pickup

Playing wise its setup pretty flat and decent amount of height for slide and will do open chords and bar chords if you must but there hard work I play it in various tuning and tend to use a brass slide on it which seems to suit it. Its decent loud and there’s a review on youtube of the National equivalent

They make a Highway 61 woody as well if you want to dial back the metalic tone

The one im looking at is the Clarksdale special which can have a pickup for some 230$.
              Thx for the info.
As for the National which is on my wish, unfortunately is out of budget.

                  National and Dobro the standards.

Mule makes a beautiful resonator at the same level of quality (and cost).

In price, just above Republic are Gold Tone and Dean. No idea how they compare in quality.

Then Republic, which seems to be a fairly high quality guitar, made in China. They sound decent on YouTube. Could probably be improved by swapping out a National cone for whatever Republic uses (cost about an extra $100-150).

Gretsch makes some that are as expensive as Republic and some that are cheaper. I’ve played about 4 of the cheap ones, and I thought one of those was excellent, especially for $329. Washburn also makes a variety, but I know nothing about them.

If it were me (and it might be — I’m deciding on my next guitar), I would either get a National or a Mule.

Tyler Bryant was in a relationship with Rebecca of Larkin Poe. Tyler’s National used to be red if this pink one is the same guitar maybe Rebecca has her eye on it and painted it pink.
I like the Shakled song thanks for posting The National sounds good but I think Tyler put a Loller Tele pickup on it too much pickup and not enough National for me trying to find the tuning and tabs for Shakled song.😊
