I picked up a moderately priced 12-string guitar with the idea of experimenting with 12-string slide playing. This probably had something to do with seeing a Leo Kottke show recently at the Boulder Theater. I decided on this Orangewood guitar over a similarly priced Chinese made Takamine and am happy with what I got. I raised the action with a shim under the saddle, switched out the strings for some heavier gauge and tuned it down to Open C#. So far I am having a lot of fun with it. I’m able to play the same songs I’ve been playing in open tunings but now I get extra stuff from the octave strings. – Bret
A bit of Leo Kottke is to hear. I like 12-string sound.

You get a lovely tone, very sweet. Kottke is one of my favorites, but I’ve had the feeling it would take me a lifetime to get passable at it. Seems to have taken you much less.
You nock me down, man! Amazingly well played very cool song, really! Like your guitar and the approach to the playing style. Great idea about the tuning, you gave me a good idea and reason to try with 12 stringer.
Thanks for watching guys. After watching your videos maybe I should try “Falling Leaves” next for 12-string slide experimenting! Lights, I think you have posted some 12-string work in the past. Am I remembering correctly? – Bret
