They’re brilliant, quite fabulous, portable, powerful and have a great sound. I bought a used one some years ago, use it regularly in public – I play my Strat through it and sing through it at the same time. I use it in a meditation class I run in a NYPL too. I bought mine used for $200. Great value.

Billy and John, I didn’t know there were different ones. What are the differences? Which one is the Blues one?

THR10 was the 1st generation of the amp, it had a few problems with the power supply which caused a buzzing, The THR10C is the updated amp which is probably the one which you will be interested in, this version has boutique amps from Marshall and Fender, with software to allow 5 user defined amp tones/settings..THR10x is the metal shredders version.

Billy, thanks. Yeah I was just reading up on these different models. The original THR and the newer THRc seem to be the same price. So I’m guessing the THRc is yhe way to go. I have been looking fot a nice amp for home in my apartment. From what I’ve seen, this little amp seems to have really nice sounds even at the lower volume. Price isn’t too bad either.

It really does have a lot going for it Scotty, I’ve had mine for about 2 years now and wouldn’t part with it.
There is an editor which downloads to your P.C.and lots of other user settings out there that are downloadable too.
Think I paid about £200 for mine, (about $250 usd), they do come up on the 2nd hand market here but they go quickly...Billy..

Hi Scotty, I was an early buyer/user of the Yamaha here on AM. I own the Thr10c and can’t say enough about it. As other have said it is genius, has great tones and the amp models are excellent, takes pedals and of course super portable. The best portable amp in the price range, I take it with me in a back pack if I’m heading to friends’ homes to jam…..the only defect i think it has is the fact that you cannot connect to external speakers and extensions…..so…I connect it in stereo with my Fender amps and the sound is huge…..I recently used it in stereo with a tube 1966 Ampeg amp in a live event and people couldn’t believe the tone…no pedals I simply used the onboard effects…..don’t doubt…..

Scotty If you do a search here in the forum under THR10c which is the one I have you will find an awful lot of posts especially from me. There are many owners here and I have encouraged a good number of them in their purchase over time. These are absolutely terrific little amps and the 10c is the one for Active Melody styles of playing in the main. It is the blues one of the range. If you want one and have the money you will never want to be without it in the future, is my guess. I use mine via USB as mt sound-card in effect for my desktop and its on most days all day and I have had it now about 3.5 years. I also am like John Chargo because I have a Mesa Boogie RectoVerb and so I tend to play through that Amp in my music space. But the THR10c is an indispensable bit of kit for me and if and when this one goes down I will most likely get another.

Thanks John. All good reviews from everyone here it seems. I did just order it yesterday, should be here by Tuesday. Looking forward to using it. One other question, it comes with Cubase software also. Is this a DAW? I know you can use the THR as an interface, so this could possibly open up some new recording possibilities. Especially if it is set up to be used with the Cubase software….Scott

Hi Scotty A big Congratulations you will be thrilled with this when it arrives and the volume you can obtain is unbelievable for such a compact unit. Battery life is also good at medium volumes. Cubase is a can of worms. Yes it is a DAW and yes you can record directly into your Computer with it from the THR as you can into any other Daw on your computer. But setting it up is a bit of a nightmare and whilst I haven’t looked in a while there was poor support on the net and Steinberg have a horrible licensing system grabbing money for all sorts of extras. It is however a very powerful DAW and has been an industry standard for many years.
But I think you might do well to by pass it and go to Reaper unless you are a mac user when garage band takes the Prize. I haven’t yet got into Reaper very deeply myself but I have copied its free download and will be going over too it in due course. I got Cubase up and running but I had to get the help of a friend who had used it professionally for over 15 years and even he ran into a whole lot of problems setting it up but we did eventually get there. Reaper does virtually all if not as much or more than Cubase. It has a trial base for 60 days which I beleive you can reload. It can be purchased for about 60 $. Lots of people here use it and will help with any problems and it has superb video support and teaching on Youtube. Its video recording and handling is actually better than Cubase I believe and it is hugely customisable so I think the consensus here it is the preferred way to go. JohnStrat
