        Hello guys,

I am looking for a small amp with great cleans wich must have an aux and headphone input ( Im only gonna use this with headphones so it must sound even better trough headphones, for jamming late night ).

I was looking at a fender champion 40/ Vox vt40x and was wondering if anyone has one or some good other alternatives.

Budget is arround 200 euro max.

If you’re only going to use it with headphones, why do you even need an amp? The amp will have virtually nothing to do with the quality of sound you hear on the headphones. You could:

            (1) Plug your guitar into your laptop, plug your headphones into your laptop, play along with your jamtracks on your computer. I do it all the time.

            (2) Plug your guitar into your Focusrite Scarlet 2i2 (which is plugged into your computer), plug your headphones into your 2i2. That gives you a nice convenient volume control for the headphones. I do this all the time also.

            (3) Get a VOX AP2AC amPlug 2 AC30 Guitar/Bass Headphone Amplifier. They are about $40 US. Look it up on Amazon.

              Randy,
I agree with Steve’s comments. I have a couple of Vox AP2 Amplugs and they work great. They have a ” Blues ” version and a “Clean ” version and both of them sound great. Great portability/no amp needed and could not be simpler.

Randy what Sunjamr says is good advice but if you actually have a case to get an amp that is fully portable and can be used with or without headphones then a good number of us here have the Yamaha THR10C. It is compact and very portable with a volume output loud enough to play in a small cafe if required. They are amazing little amps and you should check one out if looking at amps. They can be had second hand fairly regularly. I used mine much of the time with headphones whilst I was caring for my late companion and I use it as my speakers for my Desktop PC. It is mains and battery powered with usb connection with aux etc. If you do a search here at AM forum you will find a lot of information about them and also on the net.

                Hope thats a help

Check out the Blackstar ID Series amps, very versatile and priced right. They come in 10, 20 and 40 watt models and have the following

Loaded with six inspiring amp voices:
Clean Warm: A classic clean amp with ample dynamics
Clean Bright: A boutique-voiced amp that breaks up when pushed hard
Crunch: A rowdy amp that delivers classic medium-gain overdrive
Super Crunch: A muscular-sounding amp that yields more gain and punch than Crunch
OD 1: A hot-rodded amp with plentiful overdrive
                  OD 2: A juiced-up amp with raunchy mid-boosted overdrive

Packed with all the effects you’ll need:
<Modulation/strong>: Phaser, Chorus/Flanger, Tremolo, and a new Envelope Filter infuse your sound with tonal color
Delays: Linear, Analogue, Tape, and Multi delays offer everything from vintage to modern time-based effects
Reverbs: Hall, Spring, and Plate reverbs add immersive dimension to your playing

And they have Blackstar’s Super Wide Stereo that you have to hear to believe

Randy, you may want to give the Line6 PocketPod some consideration. It has a ton of effets and even though I think it was specifically made for use with headphones, you can also use it as a preamp. It can be had for € 109,-. I don’t own but, but have used it several times and would recommend it.

Hey Randy, I’m with JohnStrat on the Yamaha THR10C. It’s about the size of a loaf of bread and has absolutely phenomenal sound for electric or acoustic guitar or even a non-guitar line source, has 3-band EQ, it can double as your music player thru’ the aux input, USB jack for connection to computer, has chorus/flanger/phaser/tremolo/delay/reverb effects, operates on mains power or batteries – AND a headphone jack (which also doubles as a line out jack!) The amp has many more great features that I have not mentioned here.

I own a Yamaha THR10C, and I also have a Vox AC15C1, a Blues Cube Artist, a Roland AC-60 and a Fender Champion 40, but the amp I go to the most is the THR10C. Check it out if you can. You will be amazed!

                      Good luck!

Randy, I’ve had a Champion 40 for almost two years now, its a great little amp. With the headphone jack and aux jack you can play jam tracks with your headphones on while playing your guitar. Nice feature. I wanted a little more out of the amp so I did a little research on replacement speakers and ended up putting in a Emminence Cannibus Rex speaker. That little amp is now awesome. Louder (when you want to bother the neighbors!), cleaner and so so creamy. Love it.
