Another great lesson Brian! I’ve been a member for several years now and feel I am FINALLY getting to the point of making music (or attempting) as you so often urge. These micro lessons are exactly what I need at this point, and I’m loving them! I know you’ve done a number of these focusing on the boxes or L shape and so forth, so I’m digging back through those as well to stoke the fire. So much less intimidating with these, and combining with those excellent pentatonic lessons you did recently…it’s working!

Suggestion for a future lesson: I am also “noodling” with simple songs like Red River Valley, and simple gospel/church tunes. As I start to understand both diatonic and pentatonic scales, I’m finding it pretty easy to pick out the tune and see it working within the scales. However, it gets a bit more difficult for me to then map out the chords (I usually start by guessing I, IV, V for these…and then go to the Circle of Fifths…but usually end up just finding the chord progression on line). How about a lesson on how to determine the chord progression for a song?

Thanks for all of these awesome lessons. You are a great teacher and this is a blast for me!

I absolutley agree, Bruce. He’s a real great Teacher and I love the way he aproaches the guitar themes. I had so many – how does Brain call it? Lamp glows or what? – Moments…
I never regred it to become a member of Active Melody…

    Brian,
At around, 018 and 612 you do something I can only describe as in tumpet-tripple tongue.
When using a guitar, a trill? Anyway, Are you pulling off, hammering down, or both? I see you using the technique often.
Please go over it in one of your lessons soon.
In the meantime, I’ll continue to look up trill.
This micro is a blast for me. It’s so much fun to swing with.
Once again, thanks for the DIAGRAMS WITH FINGER/FRET PLACEMENTS. Extremely beneficial.

Wow, 4 notes produced this result. A simple box to put to memory and jam along with a fantastic jam track for the entire solo. This will be the go to lesson to work on phrasing and expression and the scenario of playing with a band like backing track. Less is really more.

‘L’ shape, square (rectangle) shape, triangle shape, and ‘House of Blues’ shape.

These little gems are just the job when the brain does not fully engage.

    Cheers Brian. 👍

I played in the bar bands for years. no lesson Just had a friend show me the songs and copy copy and do the same thing every time.
I love this style of jam track its straight forward in the pocket! it not only gives you a simple patern but lets you use all the pinta scales for or as fills and added notes
playing bends and double stops, Steel bends and all GREAT LESSON Brian

Great lesson Brian! Can I ask a favour? Could you develop this lesson into a ‘call and response’ playing the changes, as opposed to playing the key? That really would be the icing on the cake for me
