Electric Blues Lead Guitar Lesson in C – Clapton, Gary Moore, Stevie Ray Vaughan influence – EP056

Description

I wasn’t 100% sure what to title this lesson when I recorded it, but after I listened to the final recording I realized that there are 3 primary influences in this. Clapton, Gary Moore, and Stevie Ray Vaughan. I’m nowhere near any of those guys, but they certainly have influenced my playing through the years. You should always try to pick up things from other players and incorporate it into your own playing. My guitar tone in this lesson is a very heavy overdriven sound – something that you might hear a Cream era Clapton using. I’m playing through a Fulltone OCD pedal to get that sound. Also, there are 2 versions of the jam track (one normal tempo, and one slower) to make it easier to practice.

Great lesson.  Seems to me that you bend much less than I do to reach the note.  What gauge strings do you use?

@Nino - Those are Elixer 10 gauge strings.

Well, BRIAN, I guess you’re going to have to develop better name recognition. haha.  Sorry about that.

Seriously, your compositions are all very well done.  Please keep up the good work.  And…I’ve almost got the Freddie King lesson down.  Still grinding…..

p.s. don,t underrate yourself as a guitarist sometimes i plug in the headphones and just cruise the site to enjoy your ability -right up there with the best.In fact heres a suggestion put a you tube with no tab but you just jamming to a well known groove i.e the thrill is gone I,d be interested to listen as to how you go about the rhythm and solos cheers greg

A big thanks from Australia Brian. The tone settings (for the OCD and the guitar) sounded great and I was able to get a really nice tone using both.

This Part 2 lesson is probably Brian’s finest. There’s a lot of headway any guitarist can make here and it has both the all-important touch and feel! It also has Call & response and some really cool flow…….if anyone cares to really ‘up their game’ a bit more…….try hybrid picking hitting the open G string whilst playing the lower notes at the first fret ala David Grissom!! This takes some practice but it really adds even more sophistication to this already cool solo!!

Another great lesson. I am having problems with bends, cannot seem to do a proper bend without catching other strings and stopping the sound of the release. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

EP056 is a great lesson but a hard one and I find myself going back over it time and again. Is anyone else finding the individual sections reasonably OK but the hard part is joining them together smoothly. Maybe could put it down to conflicting artistic styles but I’m not anywhere good enough to attribute that!

This is such a great lesson with a ton of little treats. I wish it had the tab play back and background track with guitar. I’m finding it near impossible to get the timing right with the track.

Please can you do more Gary Moore blues? He was the best as far as i am concerned. The great B.B. King himself said Gary was in a class of his own. He is so under rated as a blues player and the meagre credit he does get seems to concern his rock and metal days. By the way I would also like to say thank you for your dedication and free lessons. Between yourself, Justin and Marty, I have learned to play after many years of watching others. I can comfortably play over jam tracks but totally suck at stand alone stuff. Anyway thanks again and keep her lit!
