Classic Rock Style Guitar Lesson – EP062

Description

In this guitar lesson, learn how to play a classic rock lead on electric guitar in the style of Jimmy Page and Billy Gibbons. I know, weird combination, but this little riff presented itself to me a few days ago and when I analyzed where those licks came from, I realized they were from both Jimmy Page and Billy Gibbons (ZZ Top). Somehow they work nicely together (maybe those 2 should do a duet album some day). I should also mention that this song switches keys half way from the key of G to C – so you’ll learn how to switch from the G minor pentatonic scale to the C minor pentatonic scale. Thanks for another great lesson. Sometimes I get a good grasp on the lesson within the week before the next one comes out but I’ve kind of lagged behind on the last few.  I suppose it’s good to know what I have to keep working on.

Having a LOT of fun with this.  Sounds kind of Black Crowes-y to me, which is pretty logical because I think if were to put Billy Gibbons and Jimmy Page in a blender, the result wouldn’t be a million miles from Rich Robinson.

Talking of the Black Crowes, a lesson on Country/Southern Rock Rhythm & Lead in Open G tuning would be cool.

Hey Brian,  thanks for another great lesson. I like what you do because I can take your idea of playing a lick or progression and make it my own. I have developed at least two songs from your lessons. You are a great teacher, may God’s blessings be upon you always.
