Hi folks,
I’m thinking about a Yamaha THR10II or a THR10 if I can find a good used one. Just wondering if anyone here uses either one of these. I’d like some feedback on how they perform as practice amps in terms of bedroom volumes, tones/presets and how the onboard interface interacts with DAWS for recording. Appreciate all feedback…thanks.Ivan

Hey Ivan,
I don’t own any of these but a friend has the THR10 that I’ve played thru. I think there are a few good options to consider first and hopfully you can demo one before buying. Here’s a Anderton’s video that gets into it.

Haven’t tried the interface, but the THR5 is absolutely fantastic. One of the best sounding little practice amps out there.

Hi Ivan!
I know you asked about THR10 but I love my, very similar, THR30iiWL! It’s a great sounding versatile little amp that’s just perfect for my home studio needs!
The presets sound good already but you can easily create your own and tweak them. It has a few basic effects built-in so no need for extra pedals. The rechargeable battery is so useful where I can move the amp and use it without plugging in, say take it outside to a jam.
I have it connected to my studio monitors and it works perfectly as an interface for recording. I record to Macbook/Logic pro or GarageBand. The Bluetooth capability allows me to use it as a speaker and play music from my iPhone AND jam to it with a guitar plugged in!
It has a few presets for an electric guitar, one for acoustic, or even bass, as well as a flat signal.
Seriously, I can’t think of any disadvantages.

I’m using studio monitors now with Amplitube 5 software so that’s good to know. 👍Ivan

Great for practicing and “bedroom levels”. Ton of effects onboard and can build nice amp sims with the phone app.

Hi Ivan, I bought the THR 10-II a short while ago. Of all the smaller amps I tried, this one had the best sound particularly at low volume. That was crucial to me. You can turn up the volume so that your neighbors complain, but it’s not loud enough in a band setting. I love the Bluetooth capability and use it like JoLa. One of the better investments I made in awhile.

I’ve had a THR10c for about 5 or so years. It was the first amp I bought and can echo what others have already said. It’s a great little practice amp for around the house, sounds great and it’s portable too. I’ll often take it with me if I’m travelling and want to take a guitar with me. As a bonus, it’s not bad as a portable speaker for your phone or whatever you plug into its aux input.
I used to use the Yamaha software to load presets from the internet too but though it’s fine on windows I’ve not found a macOS version.
I’ve successfully recorded with it but found that the volume detected in the DAW is on the low side. I don’t think that’s much of a concern these days with digital inputs to DAWs as there isn’t the same noise floor concerns. Alternatively you can boost the signal going to the amp with a boost pedal. On the plus side it’s very easy to record with. -

I have been using one for a long time now. For home use, if you want to stay friends with your neighbours it’s excellent. I plug my iPad into it for backing tracks and Brian’s lessons. I would say if you decide on one you definitely need to download the Yamaha app to get the most out it. Yamaha were the first with this kind of amp, but there some other alternatives on the market now from Boss, Vox etc. You might want to have a look at those as well.
