I wasn’t a huge fan of Waylon Jennings back in the day but I did enjoy his music over most other C&W acts
Fast forward – I just came across Waylon’s grandson Whey Jennings and I was amazed how much he sounds like his granddady
Waylon’s son Shooter is good but he doesn’t sound like Waylon – Whey Jennings definitely does -

I listened to this a few times to make sure I wasn’t hearing things, but it might just be the musicians in the band that are not the right fit for his great voice. There just isn’t any magic in this particular group. Lot’s of potential though for Whey if he puts the right group together. I wouldn’t play any songs from Waylon either, he’s got to do his own thing if he wants to make a mark in country music history.
Go slow and practice correct technique, and your abilities will dramatically improve.

Agreed on the band – maybe that will change with time……. I was mesmerized when he started singing the Dukes’ theme song. I quickly found another of Waylon’s songs for comparison.
I know what you mean on Whey not performing Waylon’s music but I look at it, that if he does some of Waylon’s songs during his shows, and then onto his original music, he would be honoring his grandfather.
Devin Allman & Duane Betts, when they are playing as the Allman Betts Band and also during their individual shows, do exactly that Some of Gregg & Dickey material with their pictures being splashed on the screens behind them
Being a long time fan of the ABB, I think that Devin & Duane – Berry Oakley Jr when he plays with them – are progressing well on their own journey. They aren’t riding on the coat tails of their fathers or Uncle DuaneHere’s hoping that Whey & Shooter Jennings will do the same in their careers.
Whether its the legacy of the Allman Brothers or Waylon Jennings or Hank Williams, etc – it’s good to pay homage to them. Bernard Allison keeps the memory of his father – Luther Allison – alive in his shows as well
