I fight temptation to buy guitars daily but its real hard when you got to mess them all day and figure new ways to sneak them by the wife when I get home normally I have a empty case tell her I’m going to do work on mine and then come with a new one but she is catching on. -

Hey Brian
Any chance of you taking a video of actually what you have in the back room. You know all them Gibson Les Pauls. My friend never put them out on the floor. He had a few I really wanted. Both were about 3 grand each. This was over 25 years ago.The melody of the notes is what expresses the art of music . 🙂 6stringerPete
It really is all about ”melody”. The melody comes from a language from our heart. Our heart is the muscle in music harmony. The melody is the sweetness that it pumps into our musical thoughts on the fretboard. 🙂 6 stringer Pete

Unfortunately all the guitars in the backroom belong to people so I cant take videos of them until they come out but when I get really cool stuff I can share it. The Last guitar in the video was a 1968 Gibson SG junior that has caught my eye and I have a vintage Hagstrom bass I can not pinpoint the age on I just know its super old and wish I could figure out the age but hagstroms are tricky.

That is quite a large selection. We hardly have anything in the pawnshops in town I have gone to.

Brian,
If I were working there your guitar inventory would be a lot less – they’d be at my home…….talk about temptation…..
Thanks for posting.Tim

I would have to leave my wallet at home as that would be way too tempting. Things like that are known to follow me home.

Interesting. I would have thought of you being an instructor of some kind.
It might be interesting to find out what other members’ professions are.

Brian,
I have always been curious as to whether pawn shops have a set of internal standards that they apply when purchasing used guitars or do you just check the obvious such as cosmetic condition, playability? Do you check the straightness of the neck and other items on the guitar specifically? I have seen guitars advertised at pawnshops but been a bit wary of them opting instead towards places like Guitar Center where I know they’ll check the guitar out. Thanks,

Tim,
We check for everything look for buzzing look at the action make sure the electronics work if its a vintage the process is more detailed making sure the electronics match the age of the guitar checking the serial numbers to make sure its not a fake. If it needs work that out of realm we take it to a professional to fix it no different then a collector.I also know variety guitar enthusiasts I can turn to to help me out.I like buying from pawnshops because they have the wild card effect you never know what you will find and in my opinion you get better deal and more for the money but somtimes I am always tempted by the ones I cant afford who wouldn’t be.

Brian,
Thanks. Appreciate getting your expertise. I’ll have to check out some of my local Phoenix, AZ pawnshops. Do you advertise online? If so can you let me know your website? My contact info is timandcass@cox.net.
