Jim,
This is my favorite of all your submissions. Great job of fretboard familiarity and improv for this great tune. Keep ’em coming my friend!

Those surf songs always transport me back to my younger days. Great playing. The right hand has to be pretty good to pick like that, and you handled it with ease. I also like the tone of those P90 pickups. Great fun tune.

Thanks Gene, lots of fun to play for sure. Always room for improvement but still fun to learn and explore the Aeolian mode. (Natural Minor scale)
Richard, yes, the surf tunes do remind me of my youth. I think the first song that I learned to play on the guitar was “Wipe Out” and it is still one of my favorites, especially after a frustrating day of trying to record myself and botching up the whole thing.
Those P90’s really sound best through my tube amps but running chords around my office/music room is a pain in the rear. The little Yamaha THR-10c is so convenient and easy to use with my computer, it ends up getting used most often.

Jim,
That was terrific! Really enjoyed it and you had it down for sure. Great tone from your SG!
I think this may be one of my favorites of yours.

Jim,
Nice playing in true Ventures style. Not much room to breath in there and you nailed the timing on the riffs.

You played that with great technique. Loved the tone also. I was transported back to a happy place in the early 60’s. I wanted a Mosrite guitar so bad back then. The SG sounded great though. Do you have two or are there more hiding out?

Hi Mike,
I should be more mindful of what’s in the background when shooting a video! Yes, I own three SG’s. (my wife just can’t understand it so I quite trying to explain it) The one in the background is my newest one and also the least expensive. I was looking for a guitar that I could set up for slide and leave it in an open tuning. That’s my excuse anyway. It’s a Special (faded) and sounds great for slide. Now, if I could only play slide. Ha!
It’s been fun going back and spending time on surf as well as older instrumental tunes from guys like Hank Marvin. Still don’t have much “whammy bar” technique but since my SG’s don’t have one, it’s ok. My other two are both Standards, one with P90’s

Very cool Jim! Thumbs up.
Play guitar just like you live; don't get bogged down in theory, it's just a tool without feeling.
