Sunburst strat – new pickguard!

Hi all AMers!

instead of buying a new guitar this Christmas (was very tempted – lol) I thought I’d give my Strat a new look so I swapped the white pickguard (right) with a black one (left). I like it a lot as I think it draws the eyes to the sunburst and the wood grain, while the white was “too white” in my opinion.
Thinking of changing the pickup covers and knobs to black as well…what do you think?

Also, what is you preferred pickguard colour on a sunburst strat?

I like it, Enrico. I like the contrasting white pick ups because the configuration is so iconic. If you google sunburst strat you can see everything under the sun.

I’ve seen one like yours with the gold aluminum pickguard and it looked pretty sharp. I do like the mint green, also.

Mint green on olympic white, yes! that’s one of my favourite looks! Mint green on sunburst? Hmm not so sure..

That looks cool Enrico, I like the contrast it adds against the pickups like John mentioned. I have a black Strat with a black pickguard which I’m not crazy about so I’m looking to change mine too.

I don’t know John, kind of looks too Johnny Cash to me 😊. I don’t dislike it, I just like some contrast like a darker Tortoise or black pearl…now that would look awesome on a black Tele.

I guess if you’re mostly a finger picker, like me, you don’t even need a pick guard. And that might look pretty cool.

I love it Enrico… I went from white, to tortoise shell to mint green. I loved them all. Then I got a black American Standard Strat after giving my sunburst Strat to my son and put a pearloid on it. I am stopping here! I will try and find a picture or two.

My S500 has a tortoise shell pick guard, which is my choice for a sunburst.

My Comanche came from the factory with a plain white pick guard but it dingy and faded when I bought the guitar. A new pick guard for that guitar is only available from 1 source and I wasn’t going to pay $65 plus shipping so…
I bought a sheet of white pearloiod material on eBay and some pearlized paint from a hobby store and made my own, painting the pickup covers to help match things
