This is a piece i put up here before some time ago. I have since reworked it and put out this version on my Flamenco guitar. I am still amazed at how good this Yamaha is for classical with its rich, surprisingly mellow, tone.
I put many hours of practice into this one not least because this piece requires ridiculous precision on the right hand. I can honestly say this is one of the few recordings i feel some satisfaction with 😁

Bravo Geoff!

Geoff, your many hours of practice have certainly been worth it. This is definitely one of your best posts. As an Augustin Barrios fan, I very much enjoyed and appreciated this. Your tremolo technique is very impressive. This is a pro-level performance.

Thanks David, I actually think this is one of my better classical performances. So glad you enjoyed this 🙂

Good for you Geoff – you have mastered the incredibly difficult flamenco 4-finger legato trick! I once sat a few meters away from Andre Segovia while he played Recuerdos De La Alhambra to absolute perfection. Mind-boggling, it was.
Well done!

That must have been quite the concert Steve, I have played Recuerdos De La Alhambra and even posted that performance on this forum. it is a piece I enjoy but I find it exhausting to play – there is a lot of hard left hand barring on that one that I am spared with this one thankfully.

That’s pretty awesome Geoff! Your practice paid off in spades with the best classical work I’ve heard from you. Bravissimo!

Hi Geoff,
You have masterfully interpreted a wonderful, truly difficult piece. Everything is just right here—the sound, the precise rhythm, and the wonderful Spanish mood. A lot of work has gone into this, but the result was worth it. I would be interested to know who composed this piece.
Best regards, Dieter

Hi Dieter, I showed the composer on the video title . Not sure if he composed anything else for guitar 🤔

Your hard work shows, Geoff. It’s even a monumental task to memorize that.
In my limited classical playing experience I could never get that ami speed you demonstrate here.

This is one of those rare cases where I did memorize the whole score. Sometimes I have to do that with the harder stuff.

very nice. Are you playing this from memory or reading the score? Can you read notation? Tabs?
-

Hi Michael. I would say learning music score is a critical skill for classical guitar players. I can read notation and tabs too but music score is richer and conveys more information. If you know how to read music, you can learn a piece without ever hearing it.

Thanks James. This is one of those that i am proud of. Problem is, I have to keep playing it to keep it in my repertoire 🤔

Wow, I know I say it every time for every new rendition, but it’s true: also this one is your best so far, because your improvements rendition after rendition are noticeable! Spotless rendition and the bit brighter tone of your flamenco guitar is perfect for this piece!

Thanks Guido. I am always trying to find ways to improve with the classical stuff but it is tough with my hands the way they are. These days I just try to get the best out of tone and expression.

Magnificent my friend. Aggressive but softened. There is no better sound on the planet than those nylon strings with a hint of reverb. Love this.John

I love nylon strings John. In a way I am surprised more on this forum don’t play them but I guess nylon is better suited to other styles of music. For classical or Flamenco i would not consider anything else 😉

Brilliant Geoff and ‘Yes’ one if your very best performances and there has been a lot! Excellent right hand technique to get the consistent flow of notes, very impressive. I’ve got a whole book of Barrios Guitar Pieces somewhere but only recall playing one of them (although can’t remember the name). Thanks for continuing to inspire us with nylon string guitar playing. All the best! 😎🎸😎

Thanks Garry and I will keep doing that 😄.
This is the only Barrios piece I have. I suspect his others would be out of my league 😅

Hey Geoff,
Such a brilliantly performed piece of music.
You didn’t drop a note – not to my ears anyway and I have no idea how you managed to keep that right hand pace solid for over 3 minutes.
Your best so far in my opinion.
Well done.
Liam.

Thanks Liam. One significant piece of training i got was on right hand technique. I know i am far from perfect but right hand positioning is pretty critical for pieces like that.
