In my incredibly humble opinion, Duane Allman still stands as the best electric slide player of all time. This video of Sonny Landreth is totally incredible, it seems that the man is playing single note harmony lines behind the slide, This is an amazing performance of a man and his guitar.

Sonny Landreth is incredible!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have done alot of slide work and the closest I have come to this is single noting behind the slide while lifting it and putting it down. Sonny gets minor type sounds by fingering behind the slide. It is hard to do, a very light touch. I love Danny Kirwin, Kim Simmons, Elmore James, Robert Johnson, Rory Block, JB Hutto, Taj Mahal, David Hole, Bonnie Raitt, and the list goes on!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have never heard anyone get such beautiful sounds like Sonny does. You would think he would be famous like Clapton, Beck, or Satriani?????? He is in a class of his own. I would not ever disagree with anyone who is a hot slider. But Sonny is a specialist in what he does.
Thanks for sharing this gem!!!!! fresnojohns

Here’s a short video clip I took of Sonny at his CD release party here in the Chicago area. He is one of my favorites. Amazing player.
