My teacher suddenly lost his mind…. he put his Gretsch 6120 ’59 vintage select for sale…
It made me so restless…. I’ve played the guitar in a few guitar lessons and I was totally in love with this instrument.
But is such an investment. But after a few sleepless nights I bought it.I’m the most happy girl in the world now, I feel so blessed to have it. I picked it up yesterday and I cant stop playing since then. I recorded a little picking, what do you think?

I think you made the perfect choice getting the guitar you don’t want to put down. You play it really well. Congratulations on your beautiful new instrument!

Darn, Fitna, you’re a bomb! Fantastic picking and yes, there’s no better motivation than playing an instrument you love! This Gretsch is almost bigger than you but you sure know how to handle it 😉 Congrats!

Thank you so much for the kind words! I’m sorry I don’t have any tab; my teacher thought me to play this.
The is a finger picking tutorial for the folsom prison blues on YouTube but I didnt use it and its a different version. -

Congratulations Fitna for buying the Gretsch and for posting a brilliant piece of Travis style finger picking, the tone was gorgeous. I owned a ‘59 just like yours quite a few years ago, then regrettably sold it. I now kick myself. Enjoy yours Fitna …….

Fitna,
You got a smoking deal no matter what you paid for that 6120. Is a Vintage 6120 and they are incredible instruments. Your playing is fantastic.
I own a 2018 Gretsch 6120 but yours is a vintage instrument with killer tone. I’m envious. Don’t ever sell that guitar. Also as others have said, keep on posting your music.

Excellent picking, and fantastic news. I’m sure there will be an unbreakable bond forged between you and that Gretsch. So good to hear your playing again, still remember being blown away with your Boogie Woogie blues post last year, so keep us informed with more. This rendition of Folsom Prison Blues certainly made me happy.

Thank you so much! Your positive and encouraging words mean a lot to me. It was such a strange year. Last februari I bought my first electrical guitar (my first Gretsch, a 5420) and now almost a year later I own the most precious and desireble guitar I could imagine. What a privilege. It was allreardy sold but the buyer didnt show. The next day I had a guitar lesson and my teacher took the Gretsch with him to the studio, and he told me maybe he fell in love with it again and he would think about keeping it. The next night I didnt sleep en could bear the thought off the Gretsch still being on the internet Marketplace. So the next morning I texted him that I hoped he would keep it because the instrument deserves a good musician like him, but if not I will buy it. He desided he wanted to sell it to me.
Actually i feel a bit ashamed because I didnt buy a highend guitar because I think I need it or to compensate a lack of talent haha! I allready had a very very good guitar I still love. But I see it as a rescue lol…Learning to play is so encouraging with Bryans lessons, I will post a video soon where I play a bit of the licks I learned from him.

Awesome playing, Fitna! You have really progressed amazingly with this sytle. Great sound with the thumb pick. New guitar sounds fantastic and is a beauty. Loved that last lick at 0:44. Killer ending.

Gorgeous guitar played gorgeously. Congratulations, Fitna. What do the toggle switches conrol? I could only find the typical function for one toggle switch in the specs.

One is pickup switch, the other is the tone controle, also called the ‘mud switch’
One master volume pot and two seperate volume pots for the seperate pickups, wich makes it possible to blend the two as you like.
There is an incredible diversity in sounds in this guitar. Im exploring it all weekend 😁 -

LarryI love it as well! It took some efford to get the timing down. Its a lick off Johnny Hiland. I love his style! But most of his licks are way to difficult for me yet.

Fitna,
Many congratulations on making your purchase. I hope it hasn’t drained the bank for too long! High quality guitars are a wonderful thing and your vintage guitar looks to be in fabulous condition, and they are never cheap! It looks so good I was wondering if it has been re finished etc. It sounds delightful and your playing is wonderful. Am I right in thinking you have only been playing guitar for a few years because if so you have attained a very fine standard in an amazingly short time.
Happy times for you and for us as we get to listen to such nice playing.

Thank you so much! Its not a real vintage guitar but a reissue of the 59 model. Its only 3 years old. But thats good, If I m walking around with a real v.h. intage guitar I would be too afraid to play it and make it my own 😀

Ah that’s really good yes a 1959 manufactured one would be a liability for use beyond home to say the least. What you have then is the perfect model and still valuable and no doubt will prove to be a great investment financially over the years. I thought that it was likely to be a re issue. But that is absolutely fantastic for you and a wonderful purchase. And all of what is just said you have covered in your remark in that this guitar is yours to play. Superb we all look forward to hearing more. Happy times ahead. One fabulous tune to learn that I want to get to at some time is Death don’t have no mercy in this land a Rev Gary Davis tune but I love the version played by Jorma Kaukonen from the Album Hot Tuna also Hesitation Blues. It’s an Album from about 1970 so perhaps you have not come across it, I suspect you will like it very much.

Congratulations to your new guitar, Finra! It‘s a very special one and I think you really deserve it. Watching you made me appreciate finger picking more again. Looking forward to seeing the next Gretsch video. They have a distinct sound, don‘t they.

Bravo, very well played and congratulations on your new guitar, Fitna! This is a great instrument and you can rightly be happy.
Play guitar just like you live; don't get bogged down in theory, it's just a tool without feeling.
