Hey all, its been a long while since I last took sometime out to play electric guitar and record. Free time has been something of a premium for me of late but I found myself with some time to spare tonight..
So background to this is, I found this backing track by “Brian”on youtube and then lost it again, in the mean time Sunburst was getting all in a twist about his THR10c, Then I found the backing track again…Anyway I thought, why not link my THR10c to my Daw( reaper) and record something..well, I did.So here is my Slow Blues in A, Played on my Squier Telecaster( the goose) and recorded direct through Yamaha THR10c with reaper.

Billy, so good to hear your playing. Really smooth lines. Nice phrasing, great interplay between call and response. I definitely hear the BB in this piece. Nicely Done!

Hey Billy, I think you stay true to your own line. Slow blues; we can relate that to our Billy. You play the slow blues really well. You work soulfully with the backingtrack. Many play just too hectic, too fast and take the track special. You bring peace to every track you play. Yes it is very pleasant to listen to you. Keep it up.
Play guitar just like you live; don't get bogged down in theory, it's just a tool without feeling.

Thank you for taking the time to listen to my showcase Gentlemen, I also appreciate your comments on my playing. I know for the amount of time I have been playing that I should be a bit more advanced on where I am just now.. I think it has just dawned on me, that I like slow blues..
Thank you both again for taking time out to listen...Billy..

Billy,
That’s your best yet! Playing in the slow lane suits you!
I liked the way you left space between the backing track and your lead and I recognized that BB note on the high E coming into play a number of times. The Goose sounded really good on this one – but then why wouldn’t it….it’s a Squier! Yeah!Tim

Thanks Gents, kind words indeed.
I have to admit you got me chuckling here with that one Tim,
The thr10c was set to Brit blues with just a little touch of reverb, it seems to have given the goose a slightly better voice, I was looking to use my BD2, but can’t for the life of me find it, so just tweeted the amps settings.
I’ve fallen for this backing track. There really is that much going on in it that it has a life of its own, I will certainly use this one again at a later date....Billy..

I really liked this, Billy. I’m with you in liking slow blues, and I thought the restraint in your approach was very effective and agree with the comments above. Well done!

yea Billy, enjoyed this.. keep it on SoundCloud, gonna add it to my fav playlist.. As for playing, man, all you need to do is just do it. lol I know it get’s hard at times, but, stuff like this is just so rewarding.
I’ve been real busy as well, why I haven’t been around much too. Hope to hear more! (and post more!!)

Thanks Brian and BluGenes for the kind and confidence boosting words.
I can’t really recall when I last got time to sit and record something, I had also forgot just how easy it is to use the thr10c amp, though having to control the backing vol level on the pc is a bit of a pain, it is a shame that it can’t be done on the thr10 itself..
Premium free time, geez I never thought would ever use that term in my life but there we go eh..hahahaha
Fingers crossed I can get to plug in a guitar and chill for an hour or two sometime soon.
Thanks again for taking time out to listen and comment....Billy..

Thanks man, I hope you are right on that one. It would be good to be comfortable with a playing style instead of jumping around all over the shop when trying to learn this guitaring lark..

Billy, I think you’ve highlighted something to me that I think can be a problem to us all. That is, jumping from one guitar style to another and learning licks and progressions in a random fashion that do not necessarily further our playing expertise. I sometimes find I have to stand back and think what it is I’ve just learned and was it in the direction I ‘really’ wanted to go.
Brian has created many differing types of lessons and I try to pick and learn only the ones that inspire me and not fall into the trap of chasing my tail and trying to learn everything.
Your ‘Slow Blues in A’ seemed to suit you as you played it very well with real feeling. Maybe you’ve found your niche.Richard

Hey Billy, that was great, you made a song out of it. I hope you’ll make the time to practice a little each day. If you spend 15 minutes playing, you can be the player you think you should be—not that you could improve on what you’ve just made but you’d have a lot more songs.

Hey Don, thanks for that man. 15 mins per day is something that I couldn’t promise myself, work and family commitments see to that, would be great if I could become more accomplished in my playing, possibly be able to add a few more licks and some lyrics. That would be grand right enough.

That’s it Billy just stay in the box and try those subtle bends and vibratos.. also half slide intervals up and down.. i heard the one slide off the 17th high E that is BB king signature lick lol .. but yeah , try those half step full step slides going up the neck or down too.. even some trills try them too! also hammer-ons and pull-offs.. BB-king lesson has it all! try learning that lessons chordal progression..maybe Brian did a micro lesson for this bb king ..i’m not sure,,but it should be easy and very relaxed to figure out. enjoyed Billy,,I really would like to hear you play the A7 off the 5th fret rooted on E string than try D7 again the D rooted on 5th fret (A STRING) than E7 position the root on the A string 7th fret .. all three chords are dominant 7th chords.. most of brian’s tabs should indicate the chord above the tab .. what I always tried to recommend is he add chord diagrams below his compositions in pdf or soundslice.. would be cool to to see him add the key signature in the staff .. but yes try enjoying 12 bar rhythm too!

I’m still practicing but got to go work all day.. was just playing a bit of knophler tune I’ve been learning.. still want to do David Gilmour.. thinking try Jimmy Page acoustics I use to do lot them JP tunes, but BBKing lessons are always the best! Keep at this and listen & watch closely to Brian too! there is a ton on stuff to learn and practice in BBKing lesson! okay enjoy Billy

hi Billy I just caught up with this. I remeber you asking about phraseing some time back and I poitned you at Its my life. Well I dont know where you picked it up from but the blues has landed fair and square here and the phrasing makes it. Its all well on its way even if you are not getting the time you would like to practice. I believe you are now getting involved in careing for a loved one and obviously if that is so time will be premium. so its great that your time out produced such good stuff and it will help the mental stresses of careing. All the best JohnStrat

Hi John, wow man that is very high praise indeed.
You are correct though, me getting lost in this backing track has been a good stress relief.
Everything about my playing needs lots of work though it is all about trying to find that important time to put the tools Brian and all the other AM’rs have put on forum to good use.
Thanks again man, it means a lot...Billy..

I can literally hear the feeling and soul pouring out of my headphones into my ears on this track. Love a good slow blues jam, and this was great. Really well done, Billy! A great example that you do not have to play fast runs and pull off big licks to play great solos on the guitar.

Hi Richard, I agree with you here. May be we should just pick the guitarist style that either inspires us or which we feel more at ease with instead of being like little magpies and jumping from one shiny object to the next,
Learning licks to a style has surely got to be a tad more inspering and more easily adapted to a backing track of choice, anyway man I’m rambling on again but I do think that this will be my forward plan.
Thanks for taking time out to listen and comment...Billy..

Hi Billy,
I loved this: I love Slow Blues, and particularly BB King. You played it brilliantly!
I listened to it late last night with a beer before bed (bbb king!). It was perfect late night listening: so cool and relaxing!
I was going to ask what backing track you used… but I have just seen your answer to Frankie… I’ll have a look at that.
Also, listening to this put me in mind of EP041, which I see that you mention. That is a great BB King lesson from Brian, worth you looking at.
Well done on your beutiful posting.
Cheers,
Rich F.

Hi again Billy,
I meant to say’beautiful’, not ‘beutiful’ !
I have just looked at that backing track lesson. This takes me back! This is the lesson back in 2010 where I discovered, and got into, Active Melody! I was looking around the internet for good blues guitar lessons, and it was the first time I saw Brian and I realised that I had found a great guitar tutor! This lesson was streets ahead of anything else that I was looking at, and I fell for the BB King style. I also loved Brian’s Scrabble Rack t-shirt!
So this is where the AM journey started for me!
Cheers,
Rich F

Hi Rich, I’m blown away with all the positive comments to this showcase of mine. It’s one of those 6 degrees of separation lessons for a lot of us, I am glad you enjoyed it man, it really makes me happy that people find a level of enjoyment from my playing(though the beer possibly numbed your senses). Thanks again for taking the time to listen and comment.
