I took the backing track from EP350 which Brian called Alternative Country style and played what I think sounds like rock/blues in the style of The Band (at least that’s what it sounds like in my head). I also used the patterns from ML121 Geoff recently played. It’s mostly in E Major with a sprinkling of E minor.
I look forward to listening to what everybody else comes up with!

Good ear for the melody, Joe. I like how you sprinkled some minor touches in the lead.

Hi Joe, well done and a good showcase of how to apply ML 121.

Very well done Joe, very nice lead improvisation/composition over the backing track, very nicely melodic and enjoyable to listen to!

Yeah, I can definitely get The Band from this. The track itself really sounds like them too with the piano, breaks, harmonic development, etc. Your lead fit really nicely over it with nice minor sounds sprinkled in to build up the tension and then releasing to melodic runs. Good one Joe!

That was awesome, Joe. In my opinion, everything is just right here: the sound, the atmosphere, and this wonderful music. You’ve created a little masterpiece, Joe.

Very nice Joe.
Great modification of the original track.
Are you getting into greenscreen, love the background.AndréM

I don’t use a green screen…Final Cut Pro 11 has a magnetic mask that eliminates the background pretty good.

Hi Joe, really nice tone and phrasing on this one. I hear the vibe you were going for! Your guitar was a bit quiet in the mix… could have been on my end as I’m listening through a single earbud.

I panned the backing track and my lead L and R by about 15% which is probably why it sounded that way using just 1 earbud.

I agree, Joe. There was a lot of The Band in your performance. Thus, needless to say, I liked it a lot. Well done!

Very cool, Joe. Did you. Just grab your guitar and play what came into your head, or did you have a pre-planned game plan? And that’s one of the coolest music studios I’ve seen, almost as good as Darryl’s House.

I generally play what comes into my head and then just practice it 4 or 5 times until I’m good enough to record.

EP350 alternative country is one of my favorite lessons. You created a very tasty lead over it. I like the blend of the E minor pent. Great dynamics and phrasing. You have improved so much and I can hear your hard work.
Well done, Joe!!!!More Blues!

Very enjoyable listen, Joe, I liked the mellow band rock ballad style lead you’ve come up with. You’re coming back with a vengeance 😉

Hi Joe , this has to be one of your best to date , you created a very pleasing melody on top of the track , with nice phrasing and use of space throughout.
A fine demonstration on the concepts from the lesson ML 121.Martin

Nice choice and performance Joe! And nice video too!

Thanks everyone for the kind comments. I called it rock/blues but Americana, rock ballad, and all the rest fit too.

Nice composition, Joe. It does sound like the Band. “The Weight” came immediately to mind. Very well-played with good phrasing/dynamics. Great melody and those few minor pentatonic riffs had high impact because you used them sparingly at just the right time. Very tasty post!

What you heard in your head came out sounding great Joe. I didn’t hear The Band in Brian’s original but it sure came through in your’s!
