We’ve lost one of the greats of our time – from Motown to The Blues Brothers, Steve’s guitar was heard in countless songs

I just heard about this today. RIP.

The sight of a touch, or the scent of a sound,
Or the strength of an Oak with roots deep in the ground.

Was sad to hear that last night. Steve was the definition of a great side man on guitar. Never stepping on anyone and always contributing to the song. When we did the tour of Stax records there is Steve’s telecaster on display. Steve with Booker T and the Mg’s were basically the house band at Stax for Otis Redding, Wison Picket, Eddie Floyd and so many other artists. RIP .

Had the privilege of seeing Steve Cropper perform in Adelaide with Guy Sebastian. Guy had gone over to Memphis and worked with Steve in the recording studio at Stax on the album – ‘The Memphis Tour. Steve gave a young talent the opportunity to shine and make a dream come true. In return, Steve came to Australia and toured with Guy. As a momento I have a fantastic cd/dvd set with a documentary included of the experience. A legend, RIP.

Duck Dunn was my inspiration to pick up the bass, my first stringed instrument. So Steve quickly became one of my favorite and most listened to guitar players. RIP to a legend!
