This shows how you can breakdown mixolydian as the major triads of the tonic and minor 7th and add the 6th degree
I’m just now looking at this. That was really interesting for sure because it focuses in on good old triads 1-3-5. Seeing those root notes all over the fret board are so important. I knew the flat seven was what made the Mixolydian mode, but the way this guy shows how to visualize the 1-3-5 pattern for the ONE on top of the 1-3-5 pattern for the SEVEN is eye opening.
Sliding from the SIX to the SEVEN when transitioning from the D to C note triad on the b-string sounds great. And of course moving horizontally with a one or two fret slide from C to D or back is all part of the options when improvising as he demonstrated.
Then finally that move to target the THIRD of the D on the g-string is essentially a 3-5-7 of the scale that makes the New York pattern work! And you can slide into it! This is really something worth working through and getting it down cold. The whole improve he did at the end was very Jerry Garcia like and I can’t get enough Jerry.
Go slow and practice correct technique, and your abilities will dramatically improve.
