Hi Active Melody family!
It’s May 2025 Site Member Challenge time!
From time to time I think it’s good to do these “light bulb” challenges where you showcase a lick, or idea that has been a huge breakthrough for you.
In this challenge you are free to play a solo composition or create a lead over an original jam track or any from ActiveMelody. Make sure you use the breakthrough idea in your composition!
Also, describe the breakthrough (you can either do this by talking into the camera and explaining, or by typing it out in the description).
This doesn’t necessarily have to be an entire, polished lead… it can be a short demonstration of the breakthrough concept, so no pressure if you don’t have time to create something elaborate.
I like to do these from time to time and will re-visit this challenge in the future at some point. Just remember your breakthrough (lightbulb) moment can be that for someone else.
The submission date for this challenge will be Sunday, June 8 – you can start submitting Friday, June 6
**If you need assistance with how to record yourself and post to the forum see this post**
_______________
GROUND RULES FOR PARTICIPATION:
1. Post your Youtube, Vimeo, or Soundcloud links of you playing your chosen lesson anytime between Friday, June 6, through Sunday, June 8, 10:00 pm CST. Please do not submit earlier. I think it is fun to see everyone’s posts at once.
2. Submit individually in the “Active Melody Member Challenge Response Submissions” forum. Title your posts “May 2025 Challenge Response – [Your AM Screen Name]”
3. Please submit only a single video or audio file for this challenge.
4. Have fun and don’t be intimidated by these challenges!!! Use these challenges to help you set goals and complete them by a deadline. You can also use this as an opportunity to chat with your fellow Active Melody members and share tips or tricks on this challenge that you think are useful.
5. In my opinion, it is better to show progress versus perfection with these challenges. So if you are a beginner and can only play the first couple of measures. That is completely ok. If you play two more measures of the next challenge piece than you did the previous one, you are on track to getting better. This is what these challenges are about…you learning guitar and getting better. Remember we are all here to support you no matter what your current playing level is.
I look forward to seeing everyone’s posts! 🙂

Good idea, Brian.
You mentioned a similar challenge in August 2023 and we also did it in July 2021.

Definitely!
It’s always great when we share what we’ve learned. Funny enough, I had one of those “aha!” moments while preparing for last month’s challenge and even considered sharing it then. I had decided against it so not to jeopardize the deadline, but am happy to do it now.
Looking forward to seeing what you all come up with!

As Homer Simpson would say “Duh-o, does this mean I have to think?”
