        Hi Active Melody family!

Time for the March 2023 Site Member Challenge! Wait, it’s March 18?

For the March 2023 challenge I wanted to expand on Manfred M’s suggestion and have everyone showcase your favorite lick (or licks)! That’s it… short and sweet. Doesn’t have to be an entire solo (although if you feel compelled you can), but what are some “go-to” licks that you find yourself using a lot.

If you could explain or notate what key you’re in, that would also be helpful. In fact, any dialogue that you want to add (where you got the lick, explain how you think about it, etc) would be great to add, that way we can learn from each other.

The submission date for this challenge will be Sunday, April 2 – you can start submitting Friday, March 31

**If you need assistance with how to record yourself and post to the forum see this post**

        _______________

        GROUND RULES FOR PARTICIPATION:

        1. Post your Youtube, Vimeo, or Soundcloud links of you playing your chosen lesson anytime between Friday, March 31, through Sunday, April 2, 10:00 pm CST. Please do not submit earlier. I think it is fun to see everyone’s posts at once.

        2. Submit individually in the “Active Melody Member Challenge Response Submissions” forum. Title your posts “March 2023 Challenge Response – [Your AM Screen Name]”

        3. Please submit only a single video or audio file for this challenge.

        4. Have fun and don’t be intimidated by these challenges!!! Use these challenges to help you set goals and complete them by a deadline. You can also use this as an opportunity to chat with your fellow Active Melody members and share tips or tricks on this challenge that you think are useful.

        5. In my opinion, it is better to show progress versus perfection with these challenges. So if you are a beginner and can only play the first couple of measures. That is completely ok. If you play two more measures of the next challenge piece than you did the previous one, you are on track to getting better. This is what these challenges are about…you learning guitar and getting better. Remember we are all here to support you no matter what your current playing level is.

PREMIUM MEMBERS: DON’T FORGET ABOUT THE ACTIVE MELODY T-SHIRT CHALLENGE:

Premium members can earn a free AM T-Shirt as indicated here:

I look forward to seeing everyone’s posts! 🙂

Cool idea! I wonder how many members will come up with the same lick (or licks) as I. But that doesn’t matter, because there’s no way we will all use it identically or in the same context.

Great, this gonna be the „lick of the month“ -Challenge on ActiveMelody. I‘m glad you were inspired by my suggestion, Brian. And to do a favorite lick challenge totally complies my intention, that i had, than i was writing my post: to show something, that everyone has fun with on his guitar. I‘m looking forward to.

Take the chance to meet your AM friends on Zoom
The next Meetup will be at the beginning of next year 2026

A detailed announcement will be posted here in the forum in good time.

I look forward to meet you.

Thanks Brian! This is one I could have and would have liked to participate in, but the time really got away from me. I’ll post it separately later. One of them is Eddie Taylor’s lick on Elmore James’ “Cry for Me.” I’m consolidating the posts now.
