        Hi Active Melody family!

It’s time for the July, 2025 Site Member Challenge

This month’s challenge is about creating a minor key rhythm. I want to see what you can come up with by taking this jam track and creating a rhythm guitar part to play over it. IT DOESN’T HAVE TO BE COMPLICATED! It’s fine if you just want to strum a chord and let it ring, or arpeggiate the chord.

I’ve covered lots of minor rhythmic ideas throughout the years, here are some lessons you might check out to get inspiration from:

        Minor Triad Embellishment Ideas
        Improvise in a Minor Key
Minor CAGED System (All 5 Positions)
        Line Clichès
        Minor Rhythm Ideas

The submission date for this challenge will be Sunday, August 10 – you can start submitting Friday, August 8

The Jam Track to use for this lesson is here – As for downloading the MP3 file, you’ll get different results depending on the browser you use. If you use Google Chrome or Firefox and click on the link itself, it will download the file automatically. Other browsers will try and play the file after it downloads (which is what you’re experiencing). So try RIGHT clicking on the link if you’re on a Windows computer and then choose the “Save As..” option. If you’re on a Mac, hold down the “Control” key, click the link, then click on “Download MP3”.

**If you need assistance with how to record yourself and post to the forum see this post**

        GROUND RULES FOR PARTICIPATION:

        1. Post your Youtube, Vimeo, or Soundcloud links of you playing your chosen lesson anytime between Friday, August 8, through Sunday, August 10, 10:00 pm CST. Please do not submit earlier. I think it is fun to see everyone’s posts at once.

        2. Submit individually in the “Active Melody Member Challenge Response Submissions” forum. Title your posts “July 2025 Challenge Response – [Your AM Screen Name]”

        3. Please submit only a single video or audio file for this challenge.

        4. Have fun and don’t be intimidated by these challenges!!! Use these challenges to help you set goals and complete them by a deadline. You can also use this as an opportunity to chat with your fellow Active Melody members and share tips or tricks on this challenge that you think are useful.

        5. In my opinion, it is better to show progress versus perfection with these challenges. So if you are a beginner and can only play the first couple of measures. That is completely ok. If you play two more measures of the next challenge piece than you did the previous one, you are on track to getting better. This is what these challenges are about…you learning guitar and getting better. Remember we are all here to support you no matter what your current playing level is.

I look forward to seeing everyone’s posts! 🙂

This looks like it’s going to be fun. I just downloaded the track and figured out the key. Now I’m on to try and figure out something to play! I hope I have time to work on it before it’s over. 😁
