Hi All,
I chose Elmore James for the ‘Artist Series (In The Style Of) Challenge’. He was nicknamed ‘The King of Slide Guitar’ and was born in Mississippi US in 1918 and died in Chicago 1963.
Brian’s lesson EP122 uses Slide Techniques (rather than an actual slide) and it has all the trademark licks and shuffle rhythm that we all love about the blues.
I play through Brian’s cycle and then the second cycle starting at 1.05 is my own.
Can’t wait to hear everyone’s choices this month.
Garry 😎🎸😎

You got me groovin in the morning, Garry. This is the right stuff to accompany my morning coffee. The second circle of your own fits perfectly. I would say, this Elmore James stuff is your thing!

A very groovy piece, full of very nice licks and phrases, Garry! Very nicely played, with a tight rhythm. Loved especially your own second cycle, really beautifully crafted and played, in a pure Elmore James’s style, as if he was really played by him! Great rendition!

A class performance. Listened twice as I had to go back to the actual lesson to find what I have missed. So tastefully done and you have certainly inspired me to try this artist’s style. Excellent work with your own seamless additions Gary.

Well played and well improvised, Garry. That’s one of my favorite lessons. I would not have known I wasn’t listening to Elmore himself. You even got the tone right!

Great playing, Garry! Looks like there are some potentially tricky little jumps up and down the fretboard on this one and made it all sound super smooth. Really nice. Great tone out of that Supro too!

Hi Garry , nice groove had my foot tapping from the off , the good thing about these lessons is the launch pad Brian creates to add your own ideas and yours is no exception , some really nice runs in the 2nd cycle , that lick at 1.52 stood out 👌,also like the tone you’ve dialled in for this one
Great stuff .Martin

I always enjoy to hear you play Garry. You’re always pushing the coolness envelope. In this case you’ve got an amazing combo of clean and articulate, and very expressively bluesy, playing … and you say it so well with your guitar.🙏🏻 Cheers, Tom

Hey Garry,
That’s a very classy performance indeed.
Gotta say I’m not familiar with Elmore James but I don’t think I need to be to know that you got it down brilliantly.
I especially liked your improv and your tone from the Strat lifted it a notch up the post.
Great sub mate well done.

Garry, your slides and pull offs 👍 are sounding fantastic! I love these old classy shuffle blues tunes.
Like others say you are sounding like a pro and I could not tell which was your own cycle, just all blended so well. You have developed your own comps to the next level. I really like your choice of music style, suits you well.
All the best.

This has gotta be one of your best yet, Garry. Amazing, awesome performance!! Played perfectly all the way through. Man, you never miss a beat or a note or anything. You were in the pocket all the way through and that boogie beat really rocked. Loved the strat tone and all the different varieties of riffs.

Hi Garry
you gave us a powerful piece played with mastery; the second part is its natural continuation and is of excellent quality. I was pleasantly surprised by the ending on backbeat.
