Hi All,
This is my 3rd AM Anniversary of posting as my first post was the May 2020 Challenge! This is truly a great site and I thank Brian and all members for all the great lessons and community support!
So … ‘Keep it Simple/Less is More’ is the Challenge for May. I chose to base my submission around Micro Lesson 070 in A Major Pentatonic. I use a Triangular Shape from Blues Pattern No. 4, and three Rectangular Shapes from Blues Patterns Nos. 1, 2 and 5.
The piece is a mix of Brian’s original and my own creation.
Looking forward to seeing and hearing everyone’s playing.

A perfect example of a “joyful blues”, using the major pentatonic across all the neck! Very nice and enjoyable composition, Garry, very well played! A lot of phrases to borrow and to take as an inspiration for playing this kind of blues! Very well done!

Always a pleasure to hear what you come up with on these challenges Garry, and congratulations on that anniversary!. It would be interesting to look back at that first submission 🙂
This really swung and even though you kept to those defined boxes you could clearly hear the progression reflected in your lead. I guess that proves Brian’s the point you don’t need many notes to sound great. Mission accomplished and in style too 🙂 -

Cool blues of yours Garry, it’s always refreshing when you work at different pitches with fewer notes. Very refreshing: thumbs up!
Play guitar just like you live; don't get bogged down in theory, it's just a tool without feeling.

Very nice Garry! This lesson was among the very first I tried to learn. Spent weeks on ML070, never got it to sound anywhere near as good as you do it 🙂 Thank you Garry and very well done.

Highly entertaining.
Fronting the band with his sweet sounding Gretsch. Gary’s got the audience swinging along with his tight grooves. Loved it man!James

A very tasteful and beautifully stylish piece of work with just enough variation to make it swing. It had a touch of whimsy, too.
And you are correct about this site. It is undoubtedly true that sticking with this through the years has made us much better guitarists.

Wonderful Garry – great song choice executed perfectly. You really swung it and made it your own with the second part. Your addition complemented the original perfectly. A very enjoyable listen. I think I need to checkout ML070. Congratulations on your 3 year milestone.

Well done. Like the way you kept the lines clean and simple but always with the groove. Nice.
Be kind to yourself (especially when you're trying to play this instrument!)

Congrats on the 3rd anniversary Gary. It’s great to see that you are still kicking goals, although you already had the goods from day one and have been a very supportive member yourself. It paves the way for others to see what can be on the horizon for players like yourself with your goals. Super choice in ml070, I love this one too, so was very interested to see your input and how you can add to what was already there. The additions complemented it perfectly, just like playing with a real Big Swing Band. Thanks for showing me how to do it.

Hey Garry,
Well I enjoyed that enormously.
Fantastic mix of swing and blues with some excellent guitar work – I especially liked your hammers and slides. Top notch.
Also, whenever you say you’ve added your own licks to a piece, I would never have guessed.
That’s a sign of great musicianship on your part.
Well done mate.

Well Garry this is absolutely outstanding. If I just listen to the audio then it sounds quite complex and initially I thought, outside of the brief set by Brian. But when I look at your fingering I can see, yes it’s fairly straightforward and relatively simple, it’s just you sheer ability to make it sound more than it is. That’s because you’re a musician Garry! Excellent.

Congrats on your third anniversary Gary and on this submission, so enjoyable and very well played! I’ve particularly enjoyed those fast legatos with hammer ons ad pull offs, so elegant!
