Been playing for 50 years and about 6 months ago, I now have trouble playing the simplest progressions. I have dead strings and not hitting proper positions. Has anyone else experienced this?

Just an update – have seen to hand docs and now a neck doc. MRI shows some disc issues but no surgery recommended at this time. Anyone else having problems? Any specialist anyone seeing?

Yep 2 car wrecks have left me with bulging discs in the upper part of my neck and arthritis at pretty much every level.
I have some numbness & tingling in my hands similar to carpal tunnel syndrome but my situation has left me with a 24/7 headache since 2011. That presents one set of issues for me
Then, as far as playing guitar, I do lose my grip of the pick from time to time, which I think is related to the injuries. It’s an issue that comes & goes so I deal with it best that I canI try to not complain b/c there is always someone who has things much worse than I do…..
If you have to deal with a pain management specialist for any interventional procedures, make sure that you deal with one who has a background in neurology. Many will have a back ground in physical medicine or other disciplines – doctors with that type of background are OK if they are prescribing meds and running tests, but if any kind of procedure is necessary on the spine, you need someone who has the foundation of being in neurology
Send me a PM if you want to discuss this any further

Appreciate the response but my biggest concern is that I can’t find a answer as to why I have lost my strength and control.
Without the why, there doesn’t seem to be a way to get it back the OT isn’t doing much.

If you haven’t considered this already, another thing that I’ll suggest is to take the MRI results to the leading chiropractor in your area.
The training that a DC goes thru differs from medical doctors and their view of situations gives them different insightsMy wife was having sharp chest pains that different doctors couldn’t pinpoint a cause.
Chiropractor took one look at the X-rays and saw that her neck had lost part of its curve due to a car wreck. 2-3 adjuments and the chest pains stopped.A consultation with a DC for your situation can’t hurt

Something else occurred to me – there are chiropractors and then there is also doctors whose training is much more extensive that are called Chiropractic Orthopedists
Some think that the title of a Chiropractic Orthopedist is an adventure in inaccurate descriptions – a total misnomer; however, if you can find one in you area, you’ll likely benefit greatly. The first link gives a description or and the difference between a chiropractor and chiropractic orthopedist
I was fortunate enough to go to one where I lived before, and he has actually become a close family friend and his adjustments gave us more relief than any other chiro that I’ve gone to..Secondly, try to find a Physical Therapist that is trained in Myofacial Release, taught by Dr John Barnes or one of his associates. PT’s with this training, in addition to the typical training that a PT goes thru, those trained with Dr Barnes background will approach the patient with the insight that the Chinese gained in their discovery of Chi or Qi.
Some view Chi as nonsense or quackery but Western Medicine has verified what the Chinese found that they called Chi – which the Chinese thought it was a man’s spirit, in reality, Western Medicine learned that it was the bio-electric that all living bodies produce that follows the meridians, channels, etc that the Chinese mapped out centuries ago.
Chi is the foundation of acupuncture, acupressure, chiropractic and now, Myofacial Release Physical Therapy3rd link below is to John’s website and he has a directory of people certified with his approach.
It’s my hope & prayer that your issue is a minor mechanical in nature, a nerve that is being impinged in your neck. If you can find a Chiropractic Orthopedist and/or a Myofacial PT, I think that you will have a much better chance of correcting your issue
