This is a repost from about 5 years ago. I was loving my Les Paul and going through a Santana phase. It’s actually based on two of Brian’s earlier lessons (EP 047 and 048). I just turned my amp up to 11 and rocked. Hope you enjoy.

This is excellent, John. Perfect tone, stellar technique, emotional phrasing – it has it all. You must be a member of Spinal Tap – you crank your amp to 11.

Sounds great, John. Love your phrasing and tone. Is that the Deluxe with no pedals? Sounds like some delay in the mix. The pup must have ear plugs, he/she didn’t even twitch.

John, I am pretty sure I just plugged into GarageBand. I just plugged into my Focusrite and into the DAWS. The Deluxe is behind me for aesthetics. GarageBand has some nice patches.

Man John, that was most excellent. Phrasing, bends, tone, all of it! Nice!

Magnificent jam, John! Love the mighty LP tone, so rich and so suitable for Santana style! It’s such a good practice to record ourselves, if anything just to be able to revisit such good vibes. Man, I love the tone and your playing was so tasteful and smooth (pun intended?) 🙂

Thanks so much for your kind words. Looking back, I am very pleased with this. It didn’t just roll off my fingers. I did a lot of prep work and stole a few of these licks from EP 048.

Some fine playing John! What everyone else said and more. You must have been cranked up because the dog tried to cover up at about 2:55! LOL

Super guitar work there John.
That’s a flawless tone you’re pulling from that LP and I can see some pretty nifty techniques – pulls bends vibratos, it’s got everything you need from a solo guitar jam.
Oh and I can defo feel the Santana thing going on.
You should be real proud of this one.
Liam.

That sound kicks ass John. You make me wish I had a Les Paul 😁.
Actually, I am a huge fan of Santana and I have always wished I could play that style and, I would say, you have shown what it takes – wow! 🙌🙌.
Thanks for drawing my attention to those lessons because I have got to check them out and borrow my friends Les Paul 😅

That was a great jam and you definitely nailed the Santana vibe! It flowed really well and you connected some great ideas together nicely. I especially liked how you sprinkled in the B note (9th) a couple times. Since the progression loops Am -> D7, leaning into the F# (6th) or the D over the D7 would have outlined that change nicely, although the loop moves quickly so timing those could be a bit tricky. You rocked it.

good strength in your playing
spot on within the grove of your playingThe melody of the notes is what expresses the art of music . 🙂 6stringerPete
It really is all about ”melody”. The melody comes from a language from our heart. Our heart is the muscle in music harmony. The melody is the sweetness that it pumps into our musical thoughts on the fretboard. 🙂 6 stringer Pete
