There is a new little interface call iRig and a related iPhone/iTouch/iPad app called Amplitube that will turn you iPhone etc. into an amp and effects modeler. I picked one up recently, and it’s a really neat little tool. The full app is $20, but there is a limited feature free version. The iRig itself is about $40.

The amps sound pretty good and the effects are believable and intuitive to use. It features a built-in tuner, metronome and some other features. Cool for quiet practice with headphones when everyone else has gone to bed . . . .

Here’s one of several demos on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bs7vRdlDKi0
