Hello! I am new to this site and just recently purchased a yearly membership. Glad to be here and excited to restart my guitar learning adventure. Recently, about 6 months ago, I revived my old guitar playing hobby after 15+ years of barely and rarely playing. My wonderful wife was kind enough to let me blow some cash on a whole new setup and I am pretty proud of it so I thought my first post on these forums would be in this board.

Guitar – 2022 PRS SE Hollowbody II Piezo. Maple top and back, mahogany side, mahogany neck, ebony fretboard, abalone bird inlays, and curly maple binding that goes around the whole body, the fretboard, the headstock, and even the f-holes. The delicious 58/15 “S” humbuckers, and the stoptail bridge with Piezo elements under each saddle. I added PRS locking tuners to upgrade the stock standard tuners. Dual outputs that allow you to split the magnetic and piezo into separate amps/interfaces. It plays like a dream, sounds really great, and I really love it. Got it on Reverb barely touched in brand new condition but paid $400 less than retail.

Amp behind it – the only piece of not-new gear, my circa 1992 Fender Champ 25 SE. I plug the piezo output into this when I am using both guitar outputs.
Amp to the left – Line 6’s new Catalyst series hybrid modeling amp. 1×12 100 watt with an attenuator switch that allows you to turn off the speaker for pure headphone use, a .5 watt setting for living room practice, and a 50 and 100 watt setting. I mostly use clean tone settings on it.

On the floor from R to L – Dunlop/MXR,CAE-modified dual fasel wah, Ernie Ball 40th anniv. volume pedal
Top row of the board R to L – EHX Q-tron, Xotic SP Compressor, Tube Screamer Mini
Bottom row R to L – EHX Soul Food(this stays on all the time as a transparent boost), MXR Sugar Drive mini, Keeley Katana mini clean boost
Far left is a Line 6 HX Effects multi-effects unit

All of the gain effects aka the pedals are going into the amp directly and the HX Effects is used for time-based effects and flows through the FX loop of the Catalyst. I also have some presets on the HX Effects that allow me to just take that unit + an expression pedal (not shown) for a super portable setup.

I’ve successfully played every day since I started playing again except while we were vacationing for a family trip back east over the holidays and am really looking forward to diving into the lessons here to help keep me moving forward skills-wise. I have a friend who lives close by who also plays and has a good number of originals and we’re starting a weekly practice session to get ready to go busking in our neighborhood with our acoustics and his new battery powered portable PA once the weather improves. I haven’t really played in public other than small gatherings in 25+ years so there’s a lot of woodshedding to do to build up the confidence!

Thanks for reading if you made it all the way through.

Welcome Brian! Lots of great learning resources here and a very supportive community.

That’s a great looking rig you have, congrats! The Hollowbody II is a really nice looking guitar. And I’ve heard lots of good things about the Catalyst also. I’m a huge Helix fan. I’m hoping they bring the Catalyst amp sounds to the rest of their product line soon.

That is a nice setup to have to get back into guitar! Love the guitar! I have been wanting a PRS for quite awhile. One day…

I am new to AM as well (just joined last month). I’ve been playing since 1983, but quit for all of my 30’s. Then, one of my friends showed me his new PRS Custom 24 connected to Amplitube (I think). I was amazed at how far technology and tools available had come in 10 years, so that got me back into it. No more buying expensive books at the music store or rewinding cassette tapes 100’s of times! And now, daily access to one of the best guitar teachers I have seen…..all from the comfort of my music room or wherever.

            Alan

Welcome to AM Brian. Congrats on the new setup. Lots of us here have stepped away from playing for awhile and returned with a passion for the instrument and a desire to improve. I live about 1000 mi south of Portland in California.
              Best wishes,
              Mike

Ok, you are way too organized Brian. I have to immediately take on a resentful approach to you as my music setup is basically throw everything in a knotted pile. That should have been blue font. I’m not resentful, just jealous. I’ll never get to that organized point.
