Sharing two practice/play experiences, pretty sure if they happen to me they happen to others.
This morning I realized I hadn’t played “Rollin’ and Tumblin'” in a long while, a few months, and when I first started, I had to think about it and I fumbled around a bit getting started, which worried me. After about 5 minutes of that, I settled in, key of A, found my groove, felt like I was really playing, found a “new” way to slide into the A-C# (new to me, no doubt it’s been done). If only I could get into that frame of mind at will, but it’s such particular thing, I haven’t been able to yet.
The other experience is a recurring one. I’ll play for a perfunctory hour or two, then get ready for work and find I have 5, maybe 15 minutes to spare before I have to leave. When I pick up my guitar, I find myself more inspired and in control than I’d been the rest of the morning, so I play past my last minute and hope the subway won’t make me any later than I’ll already will be.
It was the anniversary of Albert Collins’ birth on the 1st. This 1979 Montreux concert is among his best.
