Hi AM guitar friends,
I was in the mood to play something this afternoon. It’s a 1, 2, 4, 1 progression with a Dorian turnaround B#, C (G becoming G Minor) and back to the root! I hope you enjoy it. See you for the next challenge. Have a nice day.

Jay,
I’m always intrigued by your experiments. You dabble in chord progressions far more than I do and that’s something I need to change.
For the Dorian turnaround I think you meant Bb to C before going back to the G major. I can see that introducing the Bb and F notes in the Bb major is introducing the b3 and the b7, thereby going from G major to G dorian. Another way of looking at it is a Bb major chord followed by C major is coming from F major or with a G tonal centre, G dorian. Nice idea for a chorus. How did you figure that one out?
Loved your use of harmonized 3rds and 6ths throughout.

Hi John, thanks for listening and your feedback! For the G Dorian, I just utilized a common different approach often encountered in rock blues, which is an alternative to the “normal” turnaround…. Yes, you are right in saying that the F becomes the hidden one chord of the B# and the C, becoming it’s 4 an 5 chord. Also, F is the flat 7 of the G scale…

So, you are back Jay. It’s been a while since I last saw you here and it’s great to see you playing again.
Firstly, I really enjoyed listening to this over my morning coffee. This really was very pleasant to listen to and something about your playing reminds me of some stuff I have heard from Mike Oldfield – can’t really place why. Impressed at how you can keep it interesting playing for as long as you do.
Your video editing skills are second to none and I am always impressed at how you manage to layer yourself seamlessly over a background. It’s a skill I would love to learn but I haven’t figured out how to do it with the software I use (Da Vinci Resolve)

Hi Geoff, thanks a lot for your feedback! I tried to figure out in advance what I could play on top of my own track in advance, it’s quite ok, but it still lacks a bit of some surprise effect…;-) I’ll work on that…

I love your choice of chord progressions with the melodic lead on top! The change with the Dorian mode sounded so good 👍. Great arrangement.
One of your best compositions!!!!
