Hi everyone,
When it comes to famous LP riffs it doesn’t get much more iconic than this!
I am playing both left and right channel guitar parts on this but since they are very similar, I only filmed the left channel part for the video.
The most challenging part of the song is of course the solo – fast hammers, high fretwork and bend vibrato which I couldn’t get so I did my best to hold the notes for the right time/height before releasing so hopefully it doesn’t sound too sour.
Please enjoy and thanks for watching.
Best,
Liam.

Loved It Liam. I used to play this in my band a few years ago. Paul Kossoff used some really unique chord voicings on this and you nailed them. I really liked the lead parts at 2:50 and 3:20 where he plays against the open E string. Very Rock N Roll. Kossoff is known for having a very ferocious vibrato.
Did you know that Free was Lynyrd Skynyrd’s main inspiration? When they were teenagers they went and saw Free at a skating rink, and that started the whole thing for them.
It’s good to hear some Rock N Roll on AM,
Keep On Rockin’ Liam,

Thanks Ralph
Yeah his vibrato is awesome I think it would take a serious amount of time to get anywhere near sounding like it.
That’s a cool story about the Lynyrd thing…..

Hi Liam,
I think you have done really well with this. As Ralph says Paul Kossoff was an amazing guitarist. It is such a shame he lost his life so young at just 25. I am sure if you keep at this you will keep improving the dynamics as your playing journey goes ahead and it is already very presentable with near perfect tone as far as I can recall.

I think that sounded absolutely perfect on that new Les Paul of yours Liam. Your sound mirrored exactly what I heard in that song. Just love that fat Les Paul sound.
Really liked the control you had on the rythm – muting at all the right spots without any notes ringing out. Perfectly executed bends and lead too.
Loved it.

Real ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll’ playing Liam and it was if you were ‘in’ the band, very authentic! Steady, tight rhythm and cool single lines and your Les Paul looks and sounds amazing. Great way to start the day. All the best!

Great job on one of my favourite old classic rock songs. Loved your tone, also. I used to know how to play this years ago before I understood anything about mixing major and minor pentatonics. I have to revisit this with a whole different perspective. Thanks for sharing, Liam.

First: such great Rock sound from your Gibson!! You played that famous (and tough) solo really good. I just love these “country” licks starting 3:03 that make this solo so outstanding. I can see you put much work into it.
I enjoyed listening.

Paul kossoff was an guitar hero of my elder brother, Think i was introduced to kossoff’s guitar playing around the same time i was introduced to greenys playing about the age of 8 or 9(possibly younger), Kossoff will always be a monumental piece of guitar history, so i thank you for rekindling some memories..
As for your playing, outstanding.
Now all we just need is someone to do Radar love and the world will be the right way up...Billy..

Up until recently I only knew his “famous” playing but then I came across a live album of Free from when they were at their best and the guitar work on there is awesome so it spurred me on to do it
I’m definitely going to check out more of his stuff….

Great rock n roll Liam! Just what the LP was made for. I know there’s an app that can lower the volume of a track and you play your own part over it. I’m guessing that’s what you did. I saw your lead singer perform that more than once live.

Great guitar fill in this classic rock song Liam. Your timing was spot on and your LP sounds amazing. Your rhythm playing was especially tight.

The classic Les Paul sound, you got it just right, wonderful! One band from that era I never saw, I regret to say, but I must have danced to it a hundred times or more, it was a massive hit in 1970.

You did an excellent job with this Liam. Been singing along here that classic! You bossed that rhythm all the way through. Very fluid on the licks around the 3:30 min point and I love that slide down. Brilliant work and you kicked my Friday off in the perfect way!
