Bought myself one of these today, I couldn’t quite get to grips with the audio interface I bought about a year back and I couldn’t keep on just plugging in a guitar with a PS4 rocksmith cable(though I have to say that there were no recording issues with this)I suppose wanting to add a mic at some point to my recordings makes this a half decent buy, Lots of softwear to download with it including what looks like some royalty free drums( who know just where this could lead).
I was quite surprised to see how small the focusrite scarlett solo is though it does feel very robust..
No problem linking it to Reaper, though there was a moment or so when I though it was going to be an issue.

Good choice. Plus if you ever want to try Ableton instead of Reaper, you get it for free.

            Hey Billy,

I think you made a good choice. I own the 2i2 which has dual inputs but most of the time I only use one (guitar) and use GarageBand to record. Just as you mentioned, the Scarlett is easy to set up and use.

I would be very selective on downloading the associated software as you probably will not use 95% of it and it just takes up space on your computer.

I’ve got the I track solo which is identical apart from also linking to an iPad or iphone. I just use it with my laptop though and, you’re right it’s all metal construction and feels very solid. I think it’s excellent, just perfect for the singer/guitarist……………..OH NO!!!!! Does this mean Billy the Singer is about to emerge ….. Is the sensitive AM community ready for this???

                Billy,

I would second what Jim (JRG) said. If you are already using Reaper and are comfortable with it just use it with your Scarlet 2i2. You will like it.

I see Ambleton in the downloadable section and it is always an option, but so far I am happy with Reaper Steve.

I was thinking of the drums being handy if I ever venture in to making my own backing track…cheers Jim.

                    Hey there Billy,

After listening back to my latest video I posted and realising how bad the quality on the sound was this was one of the interfaces that I was looking into mate to help improve my recording setup so look forward to hearing how you get on with it Billy.

Thanks for that Billy. Will bear Amazon in mind mate as it’s definitely at the top of my list from my research so far

Pretty tough to go wrong with a Focusrite interface… They are indeed built like a tank and function great.

Had a bit of a moment this morning when I thought it was broken as I couldn’t get any playback sound..felt a right dafty when I realised I didn’t have my headphones on, I need to be looking at a way of hooking my pc speakers to the focusrite.

There should be a setting in your DAW that controls your input and output. If you can get to where you had your DAW select your Focusrite interface as the input source, in the same area you should be able to select your computer speakers. You may also have to go into your computer control panel and change a setting or two in your speakers. One thing I would suggest is investing in a pair of speaker monitors. Lots of inexpensive options out there, both new and used. Using headphones are optimal but over time, your ear can fatigue and after that, your brain has difficulty hearing differences in sound quality, tone, etc.

                                Hi Billy,

I’m not sure of your setup (Mac or PC) but here is what I do. I use my Yamaha THR-10c as my speakers/monitor. My Yamaha is always hooked up to my Macbook via the USB cable and I listen to my music through the Yamaha as the speakers are far superior to to the ones on my computer. When I listen to iTunes etc. they are going through my Yamaha. I could also plug the Yamaha into the back of my 2i2 where the monitors would plug in and hear my playing or music in that way as well. Lastly, I use the Yamaha as my main practice amp and for recording as it sits on my desk next to my computer. Honestly I don’t see the need to purchase monitors but that’s just me. If you have another small amp available I suspect you could use it and the Scarlett to hear your music without having to use headphones.

Yes of course there is, I had forgot that the focusrite solo defaults to headphones. It was one of those, “oh no, dont say I have broke it already” type moments and took me a bit of time to suss out what was wrong..operator error..

I didn’t realise that I could use my THR10c along with the focusrite solo, do I need a specific type of cable or fitting to make this work?. As for recording, then what are you recording with the Amp or the Focusrite?…
Thanks for the lots of input Guys, certainly food for thought..
