Hello my dearest AMers โฅ๏ธ ๐ ๐
This is my first attempt on fingerstyle playing on the acoustic trying to keep a steady rhythm with the thumb!!๐๐ My goodness how difficult it is!!!and I absolutely can’t do the palm muting technique yet!So I decided to record it without managing this technique! And I didn’t play Brian ‘s version which is awesome!Check it out!!just played my improvising!
Thanks for watching โฃ๏ธ ๐ ๐

Superb Helen and I think it has a lot to do with you coming from a musical family. Very impressed that it is all your own improv. That’s what Brian’s lessons are for after all ๐. By the way , I absolutely loved your chords especially that suspended chord you threw in around the 34 second mark.
I have played fingerstyle all my life and I cannot palm mute either. Your right hand takes the classical position and the raised wrist does not really allow palm muting.
I think this is quite possibly the best I have heard from you. Maybe that guitar suits you or taking a break helped in some way ๐

I think we all play better when we play our notes that come out of our soul, and that is what Hellen did here. Great rhythm and ability to play music your way.
Go slow and practice correct technique, and your abilities will dramatically improve.

I never would have known that was your first attempt. You played it like you’ve been playing finger style for years.

Loved it Helen, just fabulous. Youโve cracked the hardest part of achieving the coordination between fingers and the steady thumb. Trust me, itโll get easier from here and I’ll really look forward to your next exciting fingerstyle piece.

Wow, Helen, that sounds great. This steady thump keeps a perfect rhythm. It doesn’t sound like you just learned it. And your improvisation can easily stand alongside Brian’s lesson; both are really wonderful.
I think it’s really great that you’re now one of the fingerstyle guitarists, and I think it suits you so well.Take the chance to meet your AM friends on Zoom.
The next Meetup will take place in March/AprilThere will be a detailed announcement here in the forum a few weeks before.
I look forward to meet you.

I love the way youโre attacking those strings Helen. Youโre playing with authority and confidence for sure. Excellent effort for your first finger style post. As members have said above, itโs not easy so this is a great achievement. Move over Tommy Emmanuel, here comes Helen! ๐๐๐ All the best! ๐๐ธ๐

Helen,
That was awesome. That takes so much coordination and you absolutely did a fantastic job. I also think your guitar has a really really great tone and the notes you played rang out so clearly. Super Job.
