I’m thinking about buying a Fender Acoustic Junior but I’ve only seen online demos etc which can be a tad misleading. I’ve yet to personally try one out at my local store but I wondered if any AM members already own one or have experienced playing through this newish acoustic amp.
Apart from the normal 3band EQ, I noticed this amp has a few built-in reverb, chorus, delay effects etc, a looper pedal and is Bluetooth capable.
So, I’d be grateful for any opinions or feedback.

          Hi Richard,
A friend of a friend owns one and I got the opportunity to try it, although only briefly. So this doesn’t count as a valid review. Especially since I own an SR Technology Jam 100 (now Schertler Jam 100) and in my book nothing can beat it – so I am biased.

The Fender Junior looks like a decent acoustic amplifier. For home practice, it has all the bells and whistles and effects you can possibly need, all in one light unit. Very handy. It is also more than loud enough for home!
But I wouldn’t use it for gigs. It has only two input channels and on stage that’s typically not enough – for me anyway. Also, it is not as loud as expected. I didn’t look at the specs, but I suspect they must have been fiddling with the power stats somehow…
And I noticed a slightly colored tone compared with my amplifier.

I would give this amp a 9/10 for home practice, and 6.5/10 for gigs.
          Hope this helps somewhat!
          JM

Many thanks Jean-Michel, your conclusion fits pretty well with what I was expecting.
My local store gets their deliveries in June, I’ll be able to try one out then.

I’ve not played thru one of these but I’m looking at the features – does this amp have anything like a notch filter or other controls that helps control feedback? Very important to have this feature. Playing in a small room using an amp, feedback can be an issue so talk to your local dealer about this.

In that price range, there are a lot of amps available so take your time in choosing. Fender, Fishman, Orange, Blackstar even the Peavey Vypyr X3 – all nice amps to consider to be sure that you get the most bang for the buck…er uh, in your case guess it would be the most bang per pound LOL

Keep us posted with what you choose

As far as I remember, there is no anti-feedback filter on that amp.
To be honest, I rarely have feedback issues. My Fishman Aura Spectrum has a feedback filter, but I almost never need it. Only exceptionally when the location has its own big P.A. system and stage wedges.
I suppose feedback can be an issue in noisy places such as bars and pubs, but I tend to play in locations where people behave themselves LOL.

When it comes to buying an acoustic amp, I strongly suggest having a look at Schertler. More expensive (the equivalent 100 Watt Schertler is about twice as expensive as this Fender Junior), but you get Swiss quality at its best!

Thanks for that feedback and the info on the Fishman pickup system. I was basing my comments on 1) older pickup sysptems that didn’t have feedback filters and 2) fully hollow body archtop jazz boxes that are notorious for feedback

My Breedlove has a LR Baggs Element Active System which is an Undersaddle Pickup system. I’ve owned the guitar for about 4 yrs and I’ve never plugged it in. It gets good reviews so I have to take them at their word. Since I don’t play out, I don’t see the need of any amp here @ home, the guitar’s construction with solid Myrtlewood has produced a very loud guitar, even playing fingerstyle w/o picks.

Just to be accurate: the Fishman Aura Spectrum is not a pickup system, but a DI with imaging technology.

I play a Bouchez guitar with a Fishman Matrix Infinity undersaddle pickup system, and although very good it still has that “boxy” sound characteristic of piezo pickups. The Aura Spectrum DI corrects that.

I had a Fishman Matrix Infinity fitted to my Martin but didn’t really like the resulting sounds, so I changed it for an LR Baggs Anthem which has an additional internal mic. I’m happier with these results.

Thanks for your feedback chaps, I know the Fender Acoustic Amp has a Phase Switch but I don’t see any mention of a Notch Filter. The in-built looper and Bluetooth capability drew my attention to this amp, plus over and above the normal EQ settings it has a reasonable amount of effects etc.

If I were going to seriously record or play onstage, I would switch my guitar to the LR Baggs Anthem system. It seems like a no-brainer to use an internal mic for an acoustic. So many acoustics that I hear in videos sound like a plastic toy due to the pickup systems

                            Well….
I also use a Cordoba 12 CE nylon stringed guitar; it’s got a Fishman Presys pickup system which has piezo undersaddle and an internal mic that you can blend in at will.
I can tell you: that thing is the best way to get feedback! I NEVER use it on stage.

The “fight” between LR Baggs and Fishman is not going to end any time soon… I tend to give LR Baggs an edge for sound quality, but with my Aura Spectrum DI I can shape the sound I want so I don’t consider changing the pickup system of my guitar.
