The ruling means ISPs could technically censor the sites its customers visit. On the shallow side of this, we could say if the ISP doesn’t want you buying from Ebay, they would have the right to block your access. If they don’t like Brian’s lessons, they could block our access.
On the more dangerous side of things, regardless of your political persuasions, whoever is in power in DC could block access of any news that would be in opposition. It could be a major tool to manipulate a population.
Not being paranoid, just realistic.Hmmm, maybe I need to read George Orwell’s novel 1984 again……

Keith,
Fox News always strives to have us believe the world as we know it is ending, with no shortage of blame placed on those harboring progressive thoughts. Kind of sounds like a broken vinyl record to me.
Truth is the FCC ruling would allow ISP’s to charge more for certain high traffic uses of the Internet. I think it’s a stretch to call this censorship although I personally think it was a bad decision nonetheless. I’ll blame Wall Street since this decision is about making money not censorship per se.
I’ll also re-read 1984. Might be interesting in the context of what the NSA is doing with our phone records, emails and Internet forum posts! (:

Even though this was a report on Fox News, they quoted Sen Al Franken from Minnesota, who happens to be one of the most liberal in Congress. Franken called the net neutrality ruling “a major setback” that “threatens access to the Internet as we know it.” Yes, it will allow ISP to charge as they want to but it would also provide the worm hole for control if the right group were to be in control.
During a summit, Regan repeatedly told reporters that ‘Trust but verify’ his method of dealing with the Russian and said it to the point that Gorbachev became very annoyed with Regan. With the changes that we’ve seen take place in this nation since 9/11 – the NSA monitoring, Benghazi, undue IRS scrutiny, etc etc – I choose to not take things for granted

It may also go in hand with this.

Japan passed a law last October about illegal downloads. 2 years in jail for doing it. I think the new system is to let the ISP ban you as a user if you go against their policy. It’s probably in the fine print, this way the Govt. is technically out of the picture.
The melody of the notes is what expresses the art of music . 🙂 6stringerPete
It really is all about ”melody”. The melody comes from a language from our heart. Our heart is the muscle in music harmony. The melody is the sweetness that it pumps into our musical thoughts on the fretboard. 🙂 6 stringer Pete

Those of us with satellite ISP’s have been living under this scenario for some time now. We get so much bandwidth and then have to pay more if we go over. I still have access to Brian’s videos nonetheless and I don’t worry about commies or terrorists taking over. With that said I am a skeptic for sure but I have to laugh at Fox quoting Al Franken rightly or wrongly! Are you serious? There’s gotta be a song in there somewhere!
The world will end soon enough my friend. Let’s just play the blues and make the best of it.
