Of course I don’t sound like Chet, that would split my mind in half, but this was one of the first tunes of Brian’s that I made a recording of way back when. I tried to find the post but I think it goes back a long time ago.
Here is my update version. The melody of the notes is what expresses the art of music . 🙂 6stringerPete
It really is all about ”melody”. The melody comes from a language from our heart. Our heart is the muscle in music harmony. The melody is the sweetness that it pumps into our musical thoughts on the fretboard. 🙂 6 stringer Pete

Sounds great 6-String. You kept the pace and tempo like a pro. Groovy tone as well. Cool ending.

Nice one Pete, I think I prefer your version of Chet played straight and not swing tempo, you’ve now given me some inspiration to play that differently. Nice to hear your post…..
According to Brian, I joined AM in July 2011, although I know the website has of late shown a different date. You were kind enough to welcome me at the time. The other members I remember at the time were GnLguy and Don D. How time flies when you’re enjoying yourself.

Hello Richard
Yes, I can’t play the way Chet plays or how Brian played it, but I didn’t want to give up on it after all these years, so tonight, I gave it another shot at it.
Time has gone by so quickly these days. I just want to do so much. I have plans of cycling Okinawa soon, so hopefully I’ll have some pictures to post.

Hi John
I know I couldn’t nail it even now, although I did keep up the beat, something years ago I couldn’t do. I posted my take on it years ago when I first recorded Brian’s take on it and it was … so I thought I’d give it another try. I tried to get the Chet feel, but I’d crack my brain if I really tried, so I did it I guess Pete’s way. It was fun to do though. Brought back a lot of memories of being part of Active Melody.

Hi Pete. This is yet another example of a lesson of Brian’s that I had not heard before. I’ve been a premier member for about 3 years now but it’s a real mountain to climb to listen to the whole of Brian’s back catalogue. There are so many jewels in there and the micro lessons as well. So happy to have discovered this cache of musical gold (mixing my metaphors there) and the fellowship of the AM community that underpins it all. Like the quirky take on the lesson btw.

Hi Denise
I grew up with Chet’s music always playing in the living room. I always found it mind boggling how he could play. This was a style I wanted to learn, obviously I haven’t mastered, luckily I don’t want to, it would split my brain. LOL

Hello JoLa
I’m not sure since the original dates are not accurate. But my first post that does show up since Brian re-did the forum was Oct 19, 2012. I know when I first joined the forum was a bit slow and then it really started to take off and had a lot of new members back then. But recently I think there are only a few of here since around 2011, maybe 2010, but not sure. It still remains a close community though. And a fun place to hang out with a cup of coffee during the day.

H Pete, I don’t really know Chet Atkins’s style at all well but this sounds like it would make a pretty nice rythm backing to a song. Ending caught me a bit off guard too but it sounded pretty good overall.

This could be the coolest post you’ve done. Nice job in all respects. It would make a good soundtrack for some Okinawa clips. I also don’t know much about Chet Atkins. I vaguely remember some of my parents’ friends playing his music. I think he was a contemporary of Les Paul and Mary Ford, who I also don’t know much about.

March 2, 2021 at 1:55 am #240082
Hi Billy
Yes, fingerstyle is very time consuming when starting out. I’ve been doing folk style (basic) finger picking and that helps, but Chet’s style is a whole different landscape to explore. It’s really difficutl.
But you should give it a try.The melody of the notes is what expresses the art of music . 🙂 6stringerPete

Thanks for your kind comment. Sense of humor, well I can only say this as a cyclist, I’m beginning to laugh off at the times I get cut off by drivers talking on there cell phones.
I guess the part ( lol ) is going to be Pete’s signature. I play it in different beats. Got the idea from Les Paul actually. I wish I could play it like him, but…The melody of the notes is what expresses the art of music . 🙂 6stringerPete
