Got to hear all my favourite music last night by a group of awesome guitar players like Dweezil Zappa, Christone “Kingfish” Ingram, Ally Venable, Devon Allman, Eric Johnson, Kenny Wayne Sheppard at the beautiful Massey Hall with photos of Jimi on the big screen behind the artists..
Amazing KWS closed the show with my two favourite Hendrix songs, Voodoo Chile and Voodoo Child, Slight Return.
Here’s the Voodoo Chile performance. The intense 5 minute solo starts at 3:30 with longest sustained note I’ve ever heard.
I want my strat to sound just like this.

How cool is that! A lot of great players and I wish I could have been there!

Oh man, that must have been a great night for, John. You were right to grasp that opportunity to see these illustrious players. I’m surprised you were allowed to record.
I think have a tinnitus now due to this long sustain, but you’re right, the Strat sounds awesome. -

Interesting – the Experience Hendrix guys were just recently in New Zealand and I heard good reports about their performance. I wonder if it’s always the same guys who show up in every country.

There semms to be a bit of a rotation. In Chicago I see Eric Johnson dropped out and Marcus King has been added.

I guess we were both out listening to live music Saturday. We saw Walter Trout at the Coach House in San Juan Capistrano. He was just out of the studio recording his 31st album and ready to tear it up at his “home town” club. He just turned 74 but showed no sign of slowing down. Trish Freeman opened and she sang a duet with Walter on “I Don’t Want to be Broken” . Beth Hart sang that part on the album. Walter brought up some young, incredible guitar players and Trish had two guitar players that worked really well together switching lead and rhythm parts.
Oh yeah, I want my strat to sound like KWS too.😊Mike

What a night that must have been! I think you got a gig’s worth of notes in just that final solo! Interesting see how he kept such a long solo entertaining by changing styles from single note lead lines to rhythmic stabs and everything in between.
I read that, during soundcheck, Gary Moore used to seek out places on stage that would feedback enough to get massive sustains. He’d then mark them out with tape to use during the show.
Maybe worth a try in your studio 😋-

Only just noticed that the high E string goes flying off his guitar and he does the next 2 1/2 minute solo without it. Didn’t skip a beat, what a pro!

Wow! That really let go! I’ve never seen a string completely fly off like that!
That was quite something, not to mention carrying on without the slightest hint it had gone.
