Carlos Santana and Eric Clapton performed Black Magic Woman and Roadhouse Blues.
If you ask me, it looked like Eric was lost most of the time while Carlos performed flawlessly. It was great watching them both all the same!

I was going to say the same thing, Joe. Eric looked lost out there, it was kind of distressing to watch. Carlos sounded great but why did he have his back to the crowd for half that performance?

EC is having problems with his hearing from years of stage volume music – go figure, right?
He’s made statements that at times he just cannot distinguish tones & pitch b/c when sound is played, it is so distorted to him.
That’s the description that Eric has used that he’s dealing with – it’s extreme tinnitus, not only does he have ringing in his ears but sounds just clash together
To me, it would be like a cheap set of stereo speakers that the drivers are all split apart and the amplifier has been pushed so hard that the output is producing only harsh distorted sound. That’s what he described as what he heard when sound happens around him -

Certainly Eric looked isolated and out of his comfort zone. What struck me more was the lack of cohesion between the two of them. Perhaps that comes with being megastars!

I think Carlos was looking at his wife most of the time (I think she plays drums). And he had his back to Eric a lot as well. I didn’t know about Eric’s hearing loss.

To me, it looked as though he struggled to find the key at first which would be indicative of extreme tinnitus that he explained. I also noticed this when Carlos broke into the Hendrix tune just before Roadhouse Blues
He’s also said that his hands don’t work as well as they used to. He has some nerve issues in his back as wellKim Simmonds had to play slide on several songs on Savoy Brown’s final album because his hands weren’t functioning as well enough to play lead. He worked on that album until November and he passed in mid December
Our heroes are getting up there in age so….

I also noticed at the end when he was being introduced to the crowd, Carlos said something to him; Eric pointed to his ear and shook his head as he replied to Carlos.
Its sad to see these players who have given us such great music over the years get to this point
