First a thank you to Bryce for picking this lesson for the challenge. I never noticed this lesson before and it’s a real gem – it’s not the most complicated piece but it sure is tough to master. The submissions I’ve seen so far have been really impressive – great playing and a lot of creativity. Well, here’s my attempt. Thanks for viewing.

Nice work Gary! Some very accurate flatpicking there. At the end I like how you are using the pinky in the C chord shape to do the walk down, good idea as it keeps the base note in place in case you need it. One thing I noticed happening to you (which happens to me as well) is that when you approach the difficult licks, your tempo ever so slightly increases – this was happening to me because I was tensing in prep for the run of notes, and that tension made my tempo increase. As I force myself to stay relaxed through the run, I find it is easier to keep tempo (and also hit the notes – which you do very well in this take, by the way). Thanks for posting!

Taylor – that’s a good observation about tempo and some good advice. It’s funny, I think I struggle with fast tempo much more on the acoustic (which I’ve only had since May) compared to the electric — probably a comfort thing. Thanks for your comment.

Sounded great. Picking was very accurate. You have a nice, mellow tone with that guitar.
Guitar could be louder, but that’s a recording issue, not a playing one. I have the same issue all the time.

Almost flawless, I would say. As for the tempo issue mentioned by TaylorL, one way to deal with that is to play with a drum track. I think many guitarists tend to slightly alter the tempo when they come to a complex lick, and there’s a good reason for that: It’s complicated.

Hi!
You´re probably another Alvares religious man infected by Brian? Very cool guitar and nice sound. And you are playing exactly like HIMSELF! -

Wow Gary you nailed that one with a great comfortable feel and got to be pleased with that rendition of a very challenging lesson content.
Well done with bends and timing; you got some great critiques to help with that drive for continuous improvement we strive for. It always sounds sweeter; ‘pleased but not satisifed’….in this case you must be very, very pleased!

Hey Gary, played very clean. The Sound fits great to this Track.
You’re playing also with a pleasant ease.Wilfried
Play guitar just like you live; don't get bogged down in theory, it's just a tool without feeling.

Liked it a lot Gary, good job!
Don't practice till you get it right, practice till you can't get it wrong.
