I’ve been on a fingerpicking kick this past winter, spending a lot of time working on coordinating melody and alternating bass patterns. This arrangement is based on a drop D study by David Hamburger, called Marco Cohen Rides Again. I adapted it lot to make it my own. I’m not a big effects guy but I added some lipstick (echo delay) to spice it up. Hope you like it.

You are on a roll, amigo. I like the echo delay a lot – it adds a sort of haunting quality to your impressive finger-picking technique. I was not familiar with the song but you certainly performed it well. That is a beautiful Gretsch resonator.

Thanks David-I appreciate your kind words. I kind a like the delay as well… it does add some texture and another dimension. This is not a popular tune by any stretch, just a study in Drop D fingerpicking….

Aha. This is the finger picking study you were telling me about 😄
I will say you are a pretty good musician John because you always have a great feel for what you are playing. I can only echo what David was saying about the haunting sound of this.
Listening to music can be very visual for me. Somehow this makes me think of riding across an open lonely plain. Really cool.
I play lots of classical Studies and I enjoy them as much as full blown pieces 😉

Sounds like it could be in a movie sound track. Great finger picking John.
Go slow and practice correct technique, and your abilities will dramatically improve.

Hi , John , you’ve honed that finger style so well , with the thumb keeping things in check , I agree with David’s comment, the haunting quality is a standout especially with the subtle echo effect .
Drop D tuning is a favourite of mine .
Enjoyed it , thanks for sharing.Martin

You’ve got your mojo working, John, love your technique. Sounds full of swampy goodness on the resonator with the delay. Is the Gretsch a new toy?

John-
No I have had the Gretsch for some time. Just haven’t really had the time for it. It needs a set up amongst other things. Thank you.John

Awesome performance John. The effects really boosted the mood of this piece.

I love the resonator guitars and the pieces in drop D, and your performance of this beautiful study (it sounds like a good song) is brilliant and haunting. Liked also the “lipstick” effects!

Gotta love the ‘Drop D’ John! I agree, delay/echo really adds to an already top guitar playing performance. ✅✅✅ All the best! 😎🎸😎
