Hello AM’ers:
Well I debated on whether to post this. I only shot this video to check my progress on getting through a solo that, a couple of months ago, seemed impossible to me. This is a solo that I got from “coffeebreakgrooves.com.” It’s a site where you can download 15-minute long backing tracks, and they also have a few that have sample solos where you can buy the tabs and some slow motion videos (which are mostly worthless). The solo I have attempted was composed/played first by a guy named Roberto Restuccia. Roberto is amazing and my attempt at his solo (aside from having a few mistakes) could never capture the nuances that are in his version. Nevertheless — I am thrilled that I have gotten this far and that I can actually play it up to speed. I am going to continue working on this one — it’s my dream solo and I want to master it.
Thanks for viewing.

Sounding great, Gary. Those flurry licks are amazing, I would definitely like to have a few of those in my bag of tricks.

You Sir are vastly underestimating just how good you are, that was indeed the “Hoochie Coochie” man…
Only one thing wrong with it though Gary and that was you stopped playing way too soon.Billy

That sounded great. Your rapid fire sections are also clean, which is not at all easy (and beyond me still, and probably forever). Better though, is your bends, which feel just right. Liked the tone you had, and the guitar sounds great. But I do have to say that the neck inlays are definitely not my style.

Duffy – Your comment about the neck inlays cracks me up. And I happen to agree with you. This is an old Jackson guitar that I used in this solo only because the compound radius neck enables me to make those big bends on the upper frets without the sound fretting out. I can’t do that on my Strat, at least the way it’s set up now. The Jackson is more of a shredder’s guitar and I hope to soon sell it and buy a semi-hollow, which is more suited to my music style (and my age!).

Gary,
That sounded tremendous. Really enjoyed it and was hoping for more as Billy has already said.

Fantastic job, Gary. It would be very interesting to see a video or hear audio from when you first started practicing this solo to get an idea of what kind of progress you have made… I would be thrilled to post playing of this quality!

Impressive, well played, Gary. Great Solo with good Stops and bends. Just Great!

Play guitar just like you live; don't get bogged down in theory, it's just a tool without feeling.

Great playing. It was a dream to listen to. Most of us would be very happy to play as well as you. If you aren’t up on stage somewhere, I would say it’s time to do so.

Wow! Got that guitar sing’n there, Gary.
The melody of the notes is what expresses the art of music . 🙂 6stringerPete
It really is all about ”melody”. The melody comes from a language from our heart. Our heart is the muscle in music harmony. The melody is the sweetness that it pumps into our musical thoughts on the fretboard. 🙂 6 stringer Pete

Rich – Thanks for the nice comments. About the backing track — on coffeebreakgrooves.com , the backing track I used is the 2nd track on Blues Album 1. It’s the one that is in the key of D at 96 bpm. There’s also a free version on Youtube – if you go to Youtube and do a search on “coffee break grooves backing blues D” you’ll find it.

This is great, Gary! Now, I don’t know if we’re talking log-rolling, but I feel I’ve been sleeping while you posted. How’s it coming? Any developments?

OK Gary…..come clean….what video editing software did you use to make your hands appear like they were actually doing those flurries….??? LOL Only kidding of course….I could see the smoke coming off of the fret board….I hope you didn’t burn your fingers…..
Very impressive!! Indeed!!
